I've always been finanicially embarassed, worked for years trying to get all these tunes and songs in my head onto tape.cd, whatever. finally,3 or 4 years ago i found a computer for sale with 900 mhz athalon and 80 gig hd and an audigy drive in one of the 3 front bays. over the years i've added a 48x cd burner and a 16x dvd burner and have compleated 3 albums of my music,(2 can be sampled here: http://cdbaby.com/cd/mitchmulkey1 http://cdbaby.com/cd/mitchmulkey2 ) many times this was the only computer i owned. at other times was the only computer still operating-but NEVER would i take a chance on connecting it to ANY networking device. First thing upon getting the machine i removed the modem, network card, and disabled the printer ports, and even removed from profile the enablement of the series and paralel ports. 2 yr ago i found a textbook at the thrift store entitled a-1 certified microsoft service technician. now i have a little computer repair shop (along with chainsaw carving and small (read slow-at max 2 track at a time-usually only one) recording studio. i repair computers on the barter system if needed or if the family is worse off than i am pro bono. my carvings i sell from my yard for my cash needs. The studio is a labor of love and the only reward from it is from the meager sale of my cds. mostly also from my yard (haven't sold any online yet). hmmmm----wonder why the embarassing situation and all? -----what am i doing? here i have gone and delurked. what was i thinking? anyway- maybe he WILL NOT network his DEDICATED workstation. i'll go back into lurk now. sorry about the eruption. I found a few books on programming and all the linux tools are free. that's why i'm lurking here. lot's of good info here too. by the way the @old.dos email isn't any good now. hasnt been since the early eighties. please-don't you fellows argue to loud. they's folks atryin' astudy in 'ere. olddos |
