IE 8 will not install on XP8

I am having the same problem as Jonathan (posted on 5-13-09). I try to
install IE8 and it tells me that it could not install because my computer
failed to install a required update. I click the download button to install
the update (KB932823) and I end up with the message 'Setup has detected that
the service pack version of the system is newer than the update you are
applying. There is no need to install the update.' I am running version 5.1
of Win XP3 ((build 2600.xpsp.071130-1427:service pack 3, v.3264). How can I
get out of this cycle and install IE8?

Double-check that, please. Any chance it's 'build 2600.xpsp.071103-1427' ??

We'll take your word for it. Unfortunately the search index here is FUBAR
and Google's isn't much better. If there is a previous discussion you think
your readers should be aware of you should post a link to it.

This problem occurs if the Japanese Input Method Editor (IME)
is the default keyboard layout.

so you have a Japanese IME?

What version of the module being patched do you have?

Did you try the workaround the article mentions?

BTW if you really have XPsp3 the article has the explanation
for your message

This problem was corrected in Windows XP Service Pack 3.
