I have a laptop on which I have IE version 8. If I try to play any video thru
the browser, I get the message to download and install Flash player latest
version. I install it, but nothing happens. I can see the flash player in
start\all programs and controlpanel\add-remove programs, but still can't
play any video or flash files in IE.

It was working fine until a few days ago, I cannot remember what happened if
any, that is different. The laptop has Windows Vista Home basic.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You might try manually uninstalling and then manually reinstalling the Flash
Player.

Download the following two files and save them to your Desktop.

http://download.macromedia.com/pub/f...ash_player.exe
http://www.macromedia.com/go/full_flashplayer_win_ie

1. Disconnect from the Internet and temporarily disable any Real-Time
Secruity Application(s) running in the background on your machine.
2. Run the Uninstaller file from the Desktop to completely remove the Flash
Player from your System.
3. Run the Installer file from the Desktop to reinstall the latest version
of the Flash Player.
4.Test the results:
http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/

If no joy, then navigate to the following folder on your hard drive:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash

Inside that folder you'll see a file named:
"FlashUtil10c.exe"

Right click on that file and run it as Administrator, allow it to update the
Flash Player.
Note: You must be online.

Thank you everybody for the posts.

I found other posts where they suggested to uninstall and re-install from
Adobe. It did not work. But works fine on Firefox (like many others).
But I will go through the 3 replies that I got and try the other suggestions
posted. I am really crossing my fingers that something will work. Will update
the post after I try it.

Very frustrating issue and it is taking so much time not just me but so many
people....Who has the major part in this problem - Microsoft or Adobe?

If none of the suggestions(posted in this thread for resolving this issue)
work for you, then you might turning to Adobe for Flash Player installation
help:

Adobe should offer free email support(via what they term a "Web Case") for
Flash Player "Installation" problems only. The last time I checked, this
was the procedure to start a Web Case with Adobe for Flash Player
Installation help:

1. Go to the Adobe Support Portal:
http://www.adobe.com/go/supportportal/

2. When you get to the Support Portal page, click on the Button that says:
"Create an Account"

3. Once you've created an account with Adobe and you're logged in to that
Account, at the bottom of the page use the selector to select:
"Installation Help"

4. In the 'Choose product' category put a tick in the radial next to:
"Additional products"

5. From the selection menu select:
"Adobe Flash Player"

6. Now click the button that says "Continue"

You will taken to a page entitled:
"Create a support case"

7. Here you can type your support request and send it to Adobe
