Tabs in IE8 unreliable?

It often happens, when I try to open a site in a different tab, that it just
tries to load forever, without anything happening.
Yet, when I open the page in the same page the link is on, it opens
perfectly.
Is that a bug in IE8 or what?

I have version 8.0.7600.16385 and Windows 7 as my OS.

Re: Tabs in IE8 unreliable?

Are you running Win7 RC or Win7 Final?

Did you have the same problem before you upgraded to Win7 (assuming you did
so)?

1. Does the behavior persist if you start IE in No Add-ons mode? To start
IE in No Add-ons mode:

=> Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without
Add-ons; or

=> Start | (All) Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet
Explorer (No add-ons).

Troubleshooting and Internet Explorer's (No Add-ons) Mode:
http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/07/25/678113.aspx

2. Does the behavior persist if you Reset IE Advanced settings (RIES)?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737 <= Read before using!

3. What anti-virus application or security suite is installed, is your
subscription current, and is it supported in IE8? What anti-spyware
applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)?

4. Has a(nother) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on the
machine-in-question (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled on
the origina OS when you bought it)?

Re: Tabs in IE8 unreliable?

RC for the time being

No idea, used Firefox first in Win7, then changed to IE

So far it hasn't happened in No Add-ons mode, but, who knows, because it
does not always happen in normal mode.

2. I have to test yet (a bit scared to do so, to be quite honest, as it
seems to wipe out all your add-ons and saved passwords etc.).
3. I use AVG, which is always at the most current state.
4. I never had McAfee or Norton or anything installed on the machine.

Re: Tabs in IE8 unreliable?

I'm sorry but I do not support Win7 RC.

Re: Tabs in IE8 unreliable?

Sometimes links that use JavaScript to open will not open in a new tab. Can you
determine if the link refers to a URL or a JavaScript function. The status bar
should display "http://..." for URL and "javascript:..." for JavaScript.

Re: Tabs in IE8 unreliable?

No, it is really none of all that.
I have also reset IE8, and it just keeps happening, even on http:// links.
The only thing I cando when it happens is shut IE down, or even worse,
reboot my machine.
Extremely annoying.

Re: Tabs in IE8 unreliable?

In the mean time I have upgraded to the Final version of Windows 7 Ultimate.
It has not changed a single thing.
