NEW - IE7 URL sent via OE Freezes system

When I attempt to "Send" a URL from IE7 (and OE pops up as usual), once the
TO designee is inserted the frame/window will not budge, and all else
"freezes."

I had problems with cleaning my computer for a 2 day residence of Cyber
Defender and the NG led me to use thespykiller.co/uk and have all logs saved
from HJT, ComboFix, etc. Nothing is now on them at all; however, this is a
new development that began the day everything was "clean!"

Derek advised me to install Java then run secunia - which has not yet been
done (secunia run).

Three times I have had to shut down to release my system - nothing else
helped.

Please advise and thank you, again.

All updates current and automatic.
XP Pro; Ad-Aware, Avira; Malwearbytes;

Re: NEW - IE7 URL sent via OE Freezes system

Hi,
I'm just guessing because I don't recall seeing this problem posted before.

Go into Avira settings/options and disable e-mail scanning - both incoming
and outgoing. Restart. See if that helps. E-mail scanning is unnecessary-
attachments will be scanned when you open or save them.

Hope this helps,
Don

Re: NEW - IE7 URL sent via OE Freezes system

Don, I cannot find where to do that with Avira - that is why back when I
gave up and Uninstalled Avira, I had the problem with the "new AV."

There are 4 scan options (P2P, Standard, Network, and Web) - I think it's
the P2P, but not sure. None indicate email scanning. I agree, I don't want
it scanned!

Send by Page or Send by Link? Also, is OE the only E-mail client
you have installed?

> and all else "freezes."

So you can't even start Task Manager with Ctrl+Alt+Delete then?

Does the mouse pointer "freeze" too? (I can't remember if you
have enough vision to be aware of that. <w>)

BTW it might be a good idea to have either Task Manager or
Process Explorer already running so you can detect if anything
at all is happening under this "freeze".

Both, and everything is then "stuck."

Interestingly, I have Magic Jack, and today they had to re-install it b/c it
did not show up on Task Manager, and no icon. On the two drives it installs
icons on, neither would "run." All is well with that, now.

Also, is OE the only E-mail client

Yes.

Right.

NO - I know that b/c I can try to decrease a window, or X things out, but I
only hear a loud 'THUMP' or "SLAM' sound when I try to do anything. I have
to add that initially, it seems the URL indicates it is not running - or
whatever that term is for such a thing.

http://voip2u.org/usb-hub-fixes-magic-jack

(BING search for
"magic jack" problems (freeze OR freezing)
)

<quote>
So, if you're having problems with your Magic Jack not working correctly,
try buying an A/C powered USB hub and see if that solves your problem.
</quote>

That looks like a clue. Have you tried eliminating that product
from your problem scenario? ; )

Task Manager: press Ctrl+Shift+Esc (when Windows Explorer
aka explorer.exe is running) or Ctrl+Alt+Delete any time
(among other methods).

Process Explorer (aka ProcExp): download and install from TechNet

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../bb896653.aspx

Apparently you can even "run it live" (whatever that means.)
I guess that would be useful if you suspected your machine
was infected and you always wanted to be running a fresh copy?

Note: both tools allow you to run them with the option: Always on top
so you could arrange your windows to make sure that some of their
statistics were always showing. In particular Task Manager has what
is known as its "tiny footprint" mode: doubleclick in its tab frame
and you can then resize its window without any title bar, menu bar
or tabs. So, on the Processes tab you can narrow the window down
to see the statistics of just one task, etc.

The fact that your mouse pointer isn't freezing too means that the OS
doesn't completely disable interrupts. So, there may be other signs
of life in those diagnostics. Process Explorer allows you to see many
more details, including driver details, so it could be interesting looking
at that Magic Jack's components, if you still wanted to run it. ; )

Interestingly, I set up a chat with MJ and downloaded something advised b/c
it would not show the 'icon' nor would it work. Things seem better since
that session.

LOL In fact, I bought a new one rather than 're-new' b/c it was 50% the
price 'in town' not through MJ

I'll try the download for procexp - one thing that bothered me was pulling
up Task Manager there is little on mine, but also could not get rid of it! I
have apparently only chosen a brief window! DUH.

Great, but I cannot find the thing, now! Only 1 'freeze' today!

Hi Laughing Star, (Carol? :)

Just wondering if you were aware that the signature line being added to
your messages lately included your residence and cell phone numbers?

Hope This Helps.
