| default word processor I have a web site, www.frankjones.org. I have many documents for download by my students. They are all composed in MSWord. When someone tries to download one of them, IE uses WordPerfect as the program, and many won't convert. When Mozilla Firefox is used to access the website, it gives a choice of word processing programs. One can choose MSWord or WordPerfect, and no conversion is needed. How can I get IE8 to either use MSWord as the default or give a choice? Thanks -- Frank Jones |

| Re: default word processor Hi, This is a configuration issue on the computers used to download the DOC files. There has to be a program installed which can open Word documents such as: Microsoft Word Open Office Wordpad (comes installed with all versions of Windows) Microsoft Works Word Processor Word Viewer http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/do...449811033.aspx The user may have to go to Control Panel> Folder Options> File Types to set the desired program to open Word DOCs. I prefer that Word and other Office documents not open in the browser window. Instructions for changing that are at: Windows 9x and XP: 162059 - How to Configure Internet Explorer to Open Office Documents in the Appropriate Office Program Instead of in IE: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=162059 Vista: http://www.winhelponline.com/article...lications.html Hope this helps, Don [MS MVP- IE] "Frank Jones" <frankjones3********.com> wrote in message news:254B1134-3218-4962-899D-0578AB6C9FE5@microsoft.com... > I have a web site, www.frankjones.org.
