| How do I make ANY Internet Shortcuts Open in a New Window? When I click a link or URL in OE, it used to open in a new IE6 window. This wasn't affected when I used FF3 or Safari 4. But last week I tried Chrome 3, and uninstalled it after a few days (unbearable flaws that of course won't be corrected in an acceptable delay), after which clicking a link in OE opens the target, sometimes in a new IE6 window, sometimes in an existing one - which of course and as everyone I don't want at all (data and time losses). How do I restore links or URLs to open *SYSTEMATICALLY* in a New IE6 Window,.no matter where they are (in OE, on the desktop, in another IE6 window)? TIA, Versailles, Sun 04 Oct 2009 03:18:10 +0200 |

Under the 'Run' drop-down, choose "Maximized". If the window still opens small, try this next: Grab the corners of the window and drag it to full screen size. Do not use Maximize. Close all other windows first and this one last. Windows will remember the *last* screen size used the next time you open the program. B: In Internet Explorer: Tools | Internet Options | Advanced. Uncheck: Reuse windows for launching shortcuts. Close all programs. In Windows Explorer, or the Control Panel: Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types. Scroll down to {NONE} Internet Shortcut and select it. Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version. Select 'open'. Click Edit. Uncheck: Use DDE *You may need to reboot. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP [Mail] Imperial Beach, CA |

| SOLVED by editing "{NONE} Internet Shortcut" (make ANY Internet Shortcuts Open in a New Window) Thanks for your fast and helpful reply. It 1st seemed to fail, but after going further, it worked. Here is my conclusion, and the details for record. Conclusion: if your IE stopped to open Internet Shortcuts in a New Window: - 1st apply the §2B hereafter: "Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > File Types"; "Internet Shortcut" File Type (extension "(NONE)"), "Advanced", "open", "Edit", Clear (uncheck) the "Use DDE" case (don't worry, DDE will get restored later), reboot - 2nd apply §1b: "IE6 > Tools > Internet Options > Advanced", and Clear (uncheck) the case next to "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts". Reboot. - 3rd (only if 2nd failed), apply §1c: in RegEdit, reset "AllowWindowReuse" to 0. Details: 1) I forgot to mention: a)) system involved is a Feb 2006 12in laptop (Uniwill 223ei0), 12in, Pentium M760 Dothan 2.00GHz, 2GB RAM, Windows XP Pro 32bit Multilingual, IE6, MS Office Pro 2000. It was NOT affected before the Chrome 3 episode. My other system (2003 self-built desktop, Windows 2000, IE6, MS Office Pro 2000) is NOT affected either. b)) I had gone go to "IE6 > Tools > Internet Options > Advanced" and verified that the case next to "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts" was clear (Unchecked). c)) I had gone to "RegEdit\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inte rnet Explorer\Main" and verified that there was a DWORD named "AllowWindowReuse" and that it was set to 0. d)) I had gone to "Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > File Types", clicked the "Extensions" header (so to sort after the extensions, not after the File Types), and verified that the "HTM" and "HTML" extensions had "Opens with: Internet Explorer" 2) Today after reading your reply: A)) I am not concerned today with your "A" (problems with "Full Screen" or "Maximized") B)) I did your "B": go to "Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > File Types", clicked the "File Types" header, selected this time the "Internet Shortcut" File Type (extension "(NONE)"), clicked "Advanced", "open", "Edit", and cleared (unchecked) the "Use DDE" case - despite of course I strongly need DDE in daily operations. Then I closed all IE6 Windows and restarted IE6: no avail. I rebooted: no avail. But when writing this reply, thus verifying the above, in §1c I discovered that "AllowWindowReuse" was set to "1". I don't know if I had mistaken during my 1st check, or if (more probably) this has got changed in the §2B process. Anyway I changed it (back?) to "0", and all came back to normal!! Then when checking again the "File Types", there were in facts *TWO* "Internet Shortcut" File Types, with 2 different extensions, "(NONE)" and "URL". I went down in their settings but found unexpected settings, somewhat complicated. Sorry I don't remember exactly. I rebooted, to make sure the fix was persistent, and it was: after rebooting, everything is still normal. More, in the "File Types", there is now just ONE "Internet Shortcut" File Type, the one with extension "(NONE)"; in its "Advanced > open > Edit", the "Use DDE" case is now checked again. I suspect it needed to be cleared to allow some reset, and came back to normal (checked) later during resets, restarts and reboots - so everything is normal now, including the regular use of DDE. Thanks again Bruce!
