| Re: Cannot find server Hi, 1. Try clearing the Temporary Internet Files, History and Cookies. . 2. Try clearing the DNS Cache Start> Run> cmd [enter] ipconfig /flushdns Then clear the Temporary Internet Files and restart. 3. Shut down (power down) everything for a few minutes- modem, router, computers. See if the site is in the HOSTS file. To check the HOSTS file in Windows XP... Make sure that Windows is showing hidden files and is not hiding file extensions for known file types then check for a HOSTS file at [C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc] Open the HOSTS file with notepad. If there are entries you wish to disable, you can put the pound sign (#) in front an entry to disable it. Then File> Save. Or you can rename the HOSTS file to HOSTS.OLD to disable it. Additional info on the HOSTS file at: The Hosts File (Gorilla Design Studio): http://www.accs-net.com/hosts/ Blocking Unwanted Parasites with a Hosts File: http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm 4. Additional possibilities at: 956196- You receive an error message- Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956196 - Hope this helps, Don [MS MVP- IE] "Don Hardie" <DonHardie@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:6400A73D-E28E-4DF1-A2DE-FA69EFBEB2E2@microsoft.com... > Sorry I forgot to give the version - IEVer6 and am running Xp Service pack 3 > "Don Hardie" wrote: > > > When I try to access - http://bmwfans.info/ > > I get the Cannot find server page, all my friends can open it. > > I have reset the web settings with no success. > > Is there anything else I can try? > > > > Don H |

| Re: Cannot find server Don I did every thing you said and still no luck. I installed and tried Firefox and it gave a similar message. Lucky I don't own a BMW, when the son in law wants any help he'll have to send me the relevant pages out of the workshop manual that he can access on the bmwfriends.info site. | Re: Cannot find server If you're connecting wirelessly or via a router, does the behavior persist when you connect directly to the modem? If it's a laptop, can you access the site at your SIL's house? Have you tried every single Resolution method in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956196? | Re: Cannot find server No wireless connection, just a straight connection from a Netcom Modem to an ASUS PC. I am running Free Zone Alarm, AVG Antivirus Free and Spyware blaster which were running when SP 3 was originally installed I have recently done a re-installation of XP using a copy of XP slipstreamed with SP3. No Norton or McAfee applications have been installed. Windowsupdate is turned on and I have tried kb956169 fixes. This has only happened since last week when I first tried to open it and only on this web site. Can you open - http://bmwfans.info/ ? Using IE8 on XPsp3. Check first to see if you have connectivity there. Since you are using XP you may do that using either telnet or netsh for port 80 (in a cmd window): Syntax for the latter test: netsh diag connect iphost bmwfans.info 80 Before doing that you could do ipconfig /flushdns and then after see what you get from ipconfig /displaydns FWIW here is what I got from the latter: <displaydns> bmwfans.info ---------------------------------------- Record Name . . . . . : bmwfans.info Record Type . . . . . : 1 Time To Live . . . . : 7186 Data Length . . . . . : 4 Section . . . . . . . : Answer A (Host) Record . . . : 89.149.235.247 </displaydns> If you don't get an IP address in a an A (Host) Record it could explain your symptom. In that case you could temporarily add one in your HOSTS file and then go to your ISP and ask that its DNS get corrected. HTH Robert Aldwinckle --- |

| Re: Cannot find server Yes, I can access http://bmwfans.info but if I try to access it via its Lithuanian IP (http://89.149.235.247/) , I get a HTTP 400 "webpage cannot be found" error. Did you recently install WinXP SP3? If so, were AVG and ZA running in the background when you installed SP3? If you disable ZA and enable the Windows Firewall, does the behavior persist? | Re: Cannot find server Robert and PA Bear I have tried all your suggestions I was game to, as I know enough just to get me into trouble and don't want to make any other problems. I finally got a reply from my ISP with similar fixes and I did all I was happy to try. They can access the site so it's not an ISP problem. It is still only this web site I can't access.
