Re: Cannot find server

Is there a router involved here and/or does the machine connect wirelessly?

Re: Cannot find server

A friend told me to reset the IE Settings (I had done it before),which I did,
and when I closed it I was asked if I wanted the Phishing filter on or off.
Last time I did this I selected ON, this time I selected OFF and I can now
get into the website at last.

Re: Cannot find server

If we've covered this ground already, my apologies.

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)? Were any of these applications running
in the background when you installed IE7 and/or IE8?

Has a(another) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this
machine (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought
it)?

Re: Cannot find server

AVG Free, Spywareblaster, ZoneAlarm Free all turned when I instlled IE 7, I
just used Windows Firewall and no Norton or McAfee applications have ever
been installed. The Phishing Filter must have been installed by Microsoft
Updates as it had to be there before I updated th IE 7 as I couldn't access
the site with IE 6.

Re: Cannot find server

IE's Phishing Filter was introduced in IE7 and is included in IE8. If you
had the Phishing Filter in IE6, either Windows Live Toolbar or OneCare must
have been installed. cf.
http://www.microsoft.com/australia/p...ingfilter.mspx

Both AVG and ZA Free should have been disabled & the Windows Firewall
enabled prior to installing (or uninstalling) IE7 or IE8. The fact that
they weren't may have caused your problem, Don.

Re: Cannot find server

PA Bear

It was the Phishing Filter that was stopping me enter the site. I restarted
the filter and couldn't enter the site, I will leave the filter on and turn
it off if I want to enter that site.
Thank you for all your help.

[Given the site's IP, I'm not surprised, Don.]
