For that matter, any java link on any website wont work.

Re: Java not working in IE8 or IE7

Hi,
Your problem is with JavaScript, not Java.

1. Is there an error message?
2. Does the JavaScript clock at
http://mcgoodwin.net/pubx/JS/samplejavascript.html work?
3. Do you have Automatic Updates (from Microsoft) enabled?
4. Internet Options> Security> Internet Zone, try resetting to default.
5. With the warning that a reset will delete autocomplete data, such as
passwords and you will have to reinstall or re-enable browser add-ons, work
through this article:
936213- How to optimize or reset Internet Explorer 7:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936213/en-us

Useful for recovering stored passwords before you clear all stored login
data:
IE PassView- NirSoft:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/interne..._password.html

What a reset of IE settings will do:
Windows Vista Help- Reset Internet Explorer settings:
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...fe1771033.mspx
6. Other possibilities, including that a third-party security program is
blocking scripts/scripting.

Re: Java not working in IE8 or IE7

1. No, never has been
2. Yes
3. Yes. This seems to be what causes the problem everytime. Some unknon so
called update.
4. Been there done that. Never helps.
5. See #4
6. See #1

All of these have been tried on IE7 and IE8, none have ever solved the
problem.

The new HD has clean install (not an upgrade over XP or anythign else), the
only reason I have a new install of the entire system is due to a crashed HD.

Thank you for your response!

Is there a message regarding updates? When does it appear?

What third-party security programs are running?

At www.newsvine.com I see much JavaScript but no Java. In what way is the
site not working?

See if this page reports that Java is working.

Re: Java not working in IE8 or IE7

I dont know what a java or java script link is called, I do know it doesn't
work.
My description: There are links on many many web pages that when you hover
over them there is no url information, its like the url is imbedded and cant
be seen.
It is very probable I dont know what type of programming is not working, I
have been told its java. blah blah blah, the website uses java. So I
complain about java.

Who wants to go to
http://world-news.newsvine.com/_news...igration-limbo
scroll to the bottom where you can post a message. There is a button that
shows "Post Comment". Links just like that one do not work at all and it
leaves me with basically a worthless web browser.

I am on a 25mb cable connection, prior to my HD crash and this new install
web browsing was like turning a page in a book, the data was already there
before it finished. Now I have to say, over all, IE8 is so slow its like
1990 and I have a uber fast 56k modem.

What ever changes MS updates and or IE8 did have affected Mozilla as well.

Does clicking that button take you to a page displaying an "Internet
Explorer cannot display the webpage" error?

Have you enabled cookies for newsvine.com?

Re: Java not working in IE8 or IE7

Clicking on that button or any links that appear to be similar do "nothing"
at all. Just nothing.
I really have a very simple system, basic browsing with family and friends
and the worst sites we go to is myspace adn facebook. Yea, I know, they are
a breading ground for virus's. (How do you pluralize virus? Virii?)

FYI
I just uninstalled IE8 (again) with a different method from
http://support.microsoft.com/default...957700#ALTWin6
IE8 is just too slow.
