Moving tool bars in ie8

My wife's computer has windows xp sp3 and ie8, as does my computer. I've
tried rearranging her tool bars so that they take up less space. I tried
putting the google tool bar on the same row as the menu bar. After locking
the tool bars if I close ie then open it again, it's back to where they were.
on mine it works fine. I don't know what the problem is. But her ie8 seems
to have problems where mine doesn't. She does also have a couple of other
tool bars that I don't have. And she seem to have problems with facebook.
I've done deleting temp files, cookies, reg clean, defrag. But nothing seems
to help. Any idea's?

Re: Moving tool bars in ie8

Perhaps it's related to the "couple of other tool bars that I don't
have" or the "problems with facebook."

Re: Moving tool bars in ie8

Many third-party toolbars (include Google Toolbar) have their own, very
stubborn idea of where they should be located. If you've got multiple
toolbars of this ilk, you've got a real mess on your hands.

Tip: Select one third-party toolbar that you simply cannot /live/ without
then uninstall all others.

Re: Moving tool bars in ie8

Hi,

Some toolbars like WOT hijack the IE toolbar layout no-matter what you do.
Earlier versions of the Google toolbar had this feature too.

First, make sure you have the latest versions of your toolbars and other
Addons installed. toolbar.google.com for v6.

You CAN however test if your toolbar is hijacking the layout.

1. Select "Lock the toolbars" from the context menu and unlock the layout.
2. Start with positioning the Menu bar on its own line.
3. Drag and drop a toolbar to the right hand side of the Menu bar.
4. Select "Lock the toolbars" to lock the toolbar layout...... Toolbars
which are hijacking the layout will change their position to the second line
so that the Menu bar and the toolbar will occupy separate lines on the
toolbar.

Repeat the steps.. this time drag and position the Toolbar you are testing
to the Left hand side. This time when you lock the layout, the toolbar will
always stay where it is....

So.... you can position ALL of your third party toolbars on the Left Hand
Side of the Menu Bar, and they will stay in that position, or you can check
for updates, or you can remove some of your unwanted toolbars by
uninstalling them.

(TIP: With all your toolbars on the one line, it makes it hard to use them.
You can double-click the toolbar "Chevron" (looks like a dotted or solid
vertical line "|" on the lhs of the toolbar) to expand or contract the
viewable width of your toolbars.

Regards.
