Adobe 7 Pro Does not work in IE8


Althought the Adobe 7 Pro icons appear in IE8, web pages cannot be converted
to the pdf format. Clicking on the icons does nothing. I have tried
reinstalling and ensuring all updates are installed to no avail. Rolling
back to IE7, Adobe 7 Pro works like a charm. This must be an IE8 problem.

Contact Adobe Support (or install Adobe Reader v9.1.2 and/or upgrade to
Adobe Acrobat v9.x).

I installed the free Adobe Reader V9.1.2 and it made no difference. Didn't
think it would. It doesn't have the capability to create pdf documents or
convert web pages to pdf documents, and it doesn't merge with Adobe 7.1.0
Pro, which is the program integrated into IE8. So, I don't know what you're
talking about there.

other programs later, if at all. You rely on other vendors to change their
code to be compatible with yours. It's what I call design arrogance and

No one here works for or represents MS, including me.

Adobe Reader v9.1.2 should work perfectly well (to read PDF files) in IE8 as
should Adobe Acrobat Pro v7, fully patched. Again, contact Adobe Support.

OK...my mistake... I thought you worked for MS. I apologize.

You obviously didn't understand what I said PA Bear. I did not say I
couldn't read pdf files in IE8, I said I couldn't convert web pages to pdf
files. That is a substantial difference from simply reading pdf files. If a
web page is in pdf format, obviously I can simply save the page as a pdf
file, however I cannot convert an html page to pdf using Adobe 7.1.0 Pro
(fully patched version) in IE8. The Icon appears in the IE8 toolbar with its
drop-down menu, but does not work. This is a problem with IE8, not Adobe
Pro, and it's the same whether IE8 is installed in Win XP or Vista. It
renders a specific, often used, tool of Adobe 7 Pro useless, which works
perfectly in IE6 & 7. Adobe support has no idea why it doesn't work... it
should!

Is Adobe Pro 7 fully patched?

1. Does the behavior persist if you start IE in No Add-ons mode? To start
IE in No Add-ons mode:

=> Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without
Add-ons; or

=> Start | (All) Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet
Explorer (No add-ons).

Troubleshooting and Internet Explorer’s (No Add-ons) Mode:

2. Does the behavior persist if you Reset IE Advanced settings (RIES)?

3. Does the behavior persist if you boot into Safe Mode with Networking?
[Careful! Only remain in Safe Mode just long enough to test!]

4a. What anti-virus application or security suite is installed, is your
subscription current, and is it supported in IE8? What anti-spyware
applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)?
Were any of these applications running in the background when you installed
and/or uninstalled IE8?

4b. Has a Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine
(e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)?

Ans: None -- Defender is up to date and all Windows Updates are installed.

Note: This includes WinXP SP3 and Win Vista Home Prem SP2

I didn't want to do this because it's complicated and time consuming to get
all the
updates installed, none the less, here is what I did: I uninstalled Adobe 7
Pro and
IE8, then reinstalled IE8, then Adobe 7 Pro on the Vista SP2 system.

Now Adobe works as it should in IE8 on the Vista system. Cheers!! I will
attempt to do the same on the XP SP3 system at a later time. Right now it's
running good with IE7 and I don't want to mess with it for the minimal
improvements in IE8.
