Facebook Photo uploader 5 and IE8

I have a major issue with Facebook's photo uploader and IE8. When I click to
upload photos, I get the prompt to install the Active X control but before I
can click on install, I get an error message like "The instruction at
"Ox..........." referenced memory at "........" The memory could not be
written and then the boot. Any ideas?

The only answers other FB users give me is to use Firefox, to which I say,
WRONG! That's not even an answer! I want to know WHY it doesn't work. I
tried both compatibility mode and regular, no change. Using XP SP3, IE8, all
updated.

If you uninstall IE8 & reboot, does the behavior persist in your previous IE
version?

Re: Facebook Photo uploader 5 and IE8

Hello,

One of the add-ons may be conflicting. Start IE8 normally, go to Tools (if
the
menu bar does not appear, hit the Alt key on the keyboard) > Manage Add-ons.
Disable all the add-ons under 'Toolbars and Extensions'. Restart the browser
and see if the problem still is encountered in the Facebook site. If it
doesn't, then one of the add-ons is causing the problem.

Back to the Manage Add-ons window, enable each add-on one at each
time, restart and see if the problem occurs again. Once it occurs again after
enabling an add-on, you have nailed the culprit.

Re: Facebook Photo uploader 5 and IE8

I didn't try reinstalling. I was trying to avoid that. From what I am told,
it affected IE7 as well. I finally figured it out by changing my security
settings (temporarily) to allow it to run. Thanks for the suggestion!

RE: Facebook Photo uploader 5 and IE8

I was determined to figure out the problem so I added FB to my Trusted Sites
and then changed the security on Active X Controls and Scripting to the
lowest setting and it FINALLY let me install the Active X control and then I
returned the security settings to normal and it's been fine.

Thanks for the suggestions. I DO appreciate them!

Re: Facebook Photo uploader 5 and IE8

Uninstalling IE8 automatically restores your previous IE version (e.g.,
IE7).

As you've discovered that your security settings were causing the problem,
one assumes you'd have seen the same behavior in IE7.

Re: Facebook Photo uploader 5 and IE8

I have exactly the same problem as SirMathew had.

However for some reason his solution does not work for me.

I typed in FB as a trusted site and reduced the security sliders to their lowest level but no luck. Did I omit or overlook to do something else?

Also I tried disabling all add-ons no luck again.

This problem is very frustrating and I really would like to be able to download the uploader.

Has anyone any suggestions please? - I have Windows XP Home SP3 IE8 everything up-to-date.

Many thanks.
