IE 8 Security Add-On?

Hi:

I have AVG 8.5.386 Free and IE 8.0.6001.18702 installed and cannot get the
AVG Link Scanner Search Shield or Surf-Shield to display the status icon
beside each listed website. I also have also installed WOT add-on for IE 8,
but nothing is displayed by the website either. Installed IE8 WOT add-on
shows as Enabled but does not display anything.

Is there a current add-on for IE8 that will display their security rating
icon for listed websites? I have Firefox 3.5 and both AVG and WOT indicates
their respective security icon beside each website, but I have not been able
to find a similar add-on for IE8.

Thanks,

ColTom2

Re: IE 8 Security Add-On?

This is the same Add-on to IE8 that I currently have installed, but it
doesn't show the security icons by any websites like it does in Firefox.
Like I say I have it installed and enabled, but I would never know it.

Is there anything different that I can do to remedy this in IE8?

Thanks,

ColTom2

Re: IE 8 Security Add-On?

In short, IE8's SmartScreen [anti-phishing] Filter replaces AVG's
Search-Shield & Active Surf-Shield, Norton WOT, and possibly McAfee Site
Advisor.

Re: IE 8 Security Add-On?

Hi PA Bear:

The difference as I see it between IE8's Smart Screen (anti-phishing) Filter
and AVG's Safe Search is that you have to open the website with IE8 and then
check each individual website. Whereas with AVG's Safe Search it identifies
all websites listed applicable a search without having to open them and
individually check them.

This is a big difference unless I am missing something. You ought not have
to open a bad site and then check it to find out it's bad.

Re: IE 8 Security Add-On?

Let's say a Website passes the AVG check, and then changes their site
or is hacked. How long do you suppose it will take for AVG to recheck?

Forget that crap and load your Anti-Virus along with Prevx 3.0 Free.
Prevx works along side most antiviral and antispyware products and
offers extremely good CLOUD protection.

Re: IE 8 Security Add-On?

I'm not defending Smart Screen, just explaining it and the possibility that
some similar, third-party applications might not be compatible with IE8.

Hi:

I solved the problem by opening IE8>Tools>Options>Advanced Tab>Under
