Compatibilty-site in IE8

Hi,

Where is the compatability-site list stored in the PC. I think, its not as
registry entry (bcos I searched the registry looking for any entry. But, no
help!). Guessing, it might be stored in some other file.

Does someone has any idea regrading this? Anyone know where the entire list
is stored?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Compatibilty-site in IE8

Hi,

Copy and paste this uri in the IE Address bar and press enter.

res://iecompat.dll/iecompatdata.xml

You can then use the Find on page dialog to search through the list.

Or

Create an About URL for MSCL by executing this registry snippet.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\AboutURLs]
"MSCL"="res://iecompat.dll/iecompatdata.xml"

Regards.

%userprofile%\IECompatCache\index.dat

Easier to see the list by using rob's suggestion.

Re: Compatibilty-site in IE8

Hi Rob,

Thanks for the reply.
I've tried that, but didnt get the compatiblity-list. What I got looks
like:

---

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<ie8compatlistdescription
xmlns="http://www.microsoft.com/schemas/ie8compatlistdescription/1.0" />

---

Any idea, what went wrong?
Thanks.

Re: Compatibilty-site in IE8

Hi,

Did you opt in to receive updates for the Compatibility list.

Do a Windows Update.... It should be listed as an Important Update.

Here is my output from about:mscl

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
- <ie8compatlistdescription
xmlns="http://www.microsoft.com/schemas/ie8compatlistdescription/1.0">
<domain>000webhost.com</domain>
<domain>01net.com</domain>
<domain>02.fi</domain>
<domain>020300200.com</domain>

It looks like your list is empty. Unchecking the Compatibility List settings
makes no difference.

Regards.

Re: Compatibilty-site in IE8

Hi Rob,

In my Tools -> Compatibility View Settings -> "Include updated website list
from Microsoft" is in checked state.

Is that you meant?
If wromg, please correct.

BTW, I've opted for recieving compatability updates from Microsoft at the
time of installing IE8.

Thanks.

Re: Compatibilty-site in IE8

Hi,

Yes that is correct. Are you running the x64 version?

The res: protocol may not be available in the x64 version.

Actually I don't even know if that reg script will work on a x64 hive.

Start the x86 IE version and copy and paste the Address Bar uri

res://iecompat.dll/iecompatdata.xml

Regards.
