| IE 8 crashes when url with "*" in trusted sites With no addons activated and IE-Settings restored to factory settings I get an error everytime when trying to open a "https://" Url. This happens only when an URL is setup within the trusted sites like "*.domain.com", when I remove the trusted site, with the * the IE works without a problem. Version OS: Vista SP2 IE 8 : 8.0.6001.18702 Error within the events: Fehlerhafte Anwendung iexplore.exe, Version 8.0.6001.18702, Zeitstempel 0x49b3ad2e, fehlerhaftes Modul urlmon.dll, Version 8.0.6001.18702, Zeitstempel 0x49b3ad4e, Ausnahmecode 0xc0000005, Fehleroffset 0x0003e819, Prozess-ID 0x2538, Anwendungsstartzeit 01c9e03e96942e0c. regards, Daniel |

| Re: IE 8 crashes when url with "*" in trusted sites Which was installed first, Vista SP2 or IE8? What anti-virus application or security suite is installed, is your subscription current, and is it supported in Vista SP2 *and* IE8? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)? Were any of these applications running in the background when you installed SP2 and/or IE8? Has a Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)? -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Client - since 2002 Daniel Lüngen wrote: > With no addons activated and IE-Settings restored to factory settings I > get > an error everytime when trying to open a "https://" Url. > This happens only when an URL is setup within the trusted sites like > "*.domain.com", when I remove the trusted site, with the * the IE works > without a problem. > > Version OS: Vista SP2 > IE 8 : 8.0.6001.18702 > > Error within the events: > > Fehlerhafte Anwendung iexplore.exe, Version 8.0.6001.18702, Zeitstempel > 0x49b3ad2e, fehlerhaftes Modul urlmon.dll, Version 8.0.6001.18702, > Zeitstempel 0x49b3ad4e, Ausnahmecode 0xc0000005, Fehleroffset 0x0003e819, > Prozess-ID 0x2538, Anwendungsstartzeit 01c9e03e96942e0c. > > regards, > > Daniel |

Installed Antivir is: AVK from GDATA, I'll check with them if SP2 and IE8 are supported. I did not shut down the antivir program before installing SP2 or IE8. There're no additional security programs installend the the standard + the avk. regards, Daniel |

Translated is: Incorrect application iexplore.exe, ... "Incorrect"? I've seen "faulting application" but an incorrect one? What security software is installed and running? Does any of it use HIPS (host intrusion protection system), like defining application rules as to what can load into memory for some program guard and what can get a connection for a firewall guard? Same thing happen when you reboot Windows into is safe mode (with networking) and retest? |

I also tested as metioned in a parallel thread within this topic that I tested the behaviour after downgrading to IE 7 and found that IE 7 is working properly. I'll test the "safe mode" when I installed the IE 8 again in a while and the problem reoccurs. regards, Daniel |

Now reinstall IE8 per the following and let's see if the unwanted behavior returns: • Install IE8 manually, not via Windows Update/Automatic Updates!! => http://www.microsoft.com/windows/int...ide-sites.aspx (Save the download to your desktop; to install, right-click on the saved file and select "Run as Administrator".) • Uninstall all third-party toolbars (e.g., Google; Yahoo; Windows Live) and third-party Windows Themes before installing IE8. • Close all open applications (i.e., anything with a taskbar icon) before installing or uninstalling IE8. • For best chance of success, make certain that your anti-virus application (AVK), any anti-spyware applications (other than Defender), and your third-party firewall (if any) are supported in IE8 Final before you decide install it. • FULLY DISABLE your anti-virus application and any anti-spyware applications' "system protections" (other than Defender's) before installing (or uninstalling) an IE upgrade. If you're running a third-party firewall, I would recommend disabling it and then enabling the Windows Firewall before installing (or uninstalling) an IE upgrade. • Create a Restore Point manually before installing IE8. [Do NOT use System Restore to remove/uninstall IE8; instead, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957700. Then use the Restore Point prior to reinstalling IE8 per these recommendations. Norton users will need to see http://bertk.mvps.org/html/symantecdoc1.html.] • Reboot twice after installing or uninstalling IE8. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Client - since 2002 |
