Does Adobe Reader 9 interfere with IE7?

Hi! Does Adobe Reader 9 interfere with IE7, or maybe vice versa?

I uninstalled IE7, back to IE6, and things are working again. If I
install IE8, will my problems start up again?

I just upgraded to WinXP Home last week, after 8 or 9 years on
win98SE. I have both now.

I started with the orlginal XP CD and then installed SP2 from a CD I
had bought. I dl'd and installed SP3.

Everything went smoothly. I dl'd Adobe Reader 9 and installed it, and
it worked.

Then I dl'd IE7 and installed it, and right after that, or maybe after
I rebooted, XP started crashing over and over, at various places. It
usually crashed right after it started, and when I hadn't even started
either IE or Adobe. Sometimes I couldn't get it to start, and I
couldn't get it to start in Safe Mode either. I would get an
all-black screen with Safe Mode written in each corner, and one line
of a file name or some other text at the top.

Finally I was able to get XP to run long enough to uninstall IE7 back
to IE6 and everything is ok now.

But I'd like to use IE7 or 8. I understand they have tabs.

Thanks for any help you may give.

The first thing to do is diable automatic reboot on error. Once you get
this far, copy down the entire error message and post it here.

Adobe 9 does not interfere with XP SP3 on my systems.

Huh. Yes, I asked it there, and YOU YOURSELF told me to ask the
question here. So I did. Why are you trying to make me look like a
troll?

One other person replied in the other ng and said to use
Foxitsoftware. It was nice of him to post, but his answer was 3 words
long and didn't say if there was a known problem between Adobe and
IE7. I want to be able to use Adobe and if possible, I want a better
answer. And you told me to post here.

[Agent] Yes, I did point you to this newsgroup, but I also answered your
only question in your original thread, too:
http://groups.google.com/group/micro...8e34e45722871a

If you'd now like assistance in getting IE7 installed & running properly,
first tell me if WinXP SP3 has been installed yet? (I would not recommend
upgrading directly to IE8 at this point.)

Yes, it has.

I installed it before I installed either Adobe Reader 9 or IE7.
Installation went fine for SP3, and the other two programs also fwiw.

Re: Does Adobe Reader 9 interfere with IE7?

I would strongly encourage you to uninstall any third-party toolbars and
Windows Themes (e.g., Window Blinds) prior to reinstalling IE7.

As you were having some sort of issue with Adobe Reader, I'd also uninstall
any/all versions of Adobe (Acrobat) Reader first, too.

If you have an old, freebie version of Adobe Acrobat (full version),
uninstall it, too.

Required reading IMHO before installing IE7: Sandi's Installation Tips for
IE7 <= Steps #1-8, #10 & #11; take note of #12, then STOP!
http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install
(ignore any references to Vista)

IE7 will not be offered via Windows Update. You can download the installer
here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...0-081805b2f90b

Save the installer to your desktop, do not Run it.

Make *certain* that you check in at Windows Update immediately after
installing IE7 and install any critical updates offered. If Optional
Updates category offers Root Certificates update, I recommend installing it
to take full advantage of IE7's additional security.

About IE7 (and IE8) Installation and Anti-Malware Applications
http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/200...lications.aspx

=> Close all open applications (i.e., anything with a taskbar icon) before
installing or uninstalling IE7.

=> I would strongly recommend disabling your anti-virus application and any
anti-spyware application's "system protections" (other than Defender's)
before installing (or uninstalling) an IE upgrade. If you're running a
third-party firewall, I would recommend disabling it and then enabling the
Windows Firewall before installing (or uninstalling) an IE upgrade.

=> Create a Restore Point manually before installing IE7. [Do NOT use
System Restore to remove/uninstall IE7; instead, see
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957700. Then use the Restore Point prior to
reinstalling IE7 per these recommendations. Norton users will need to see
http://bertk.mvps.org/html/symantecdoc1.html.]

=> Reboot twice after installing or uninstalling an IE upgrade.

Thanks for all the info.

Does this provide added security even when not running IE? I usually
use Firefox and I haven't figured out the relationship between IE and
the rest of Windows.

A lot of steps. I may postpone IE7 until I have more time.
