| IE8 slow Notice many people have this issue. The blurb by MS says that IE8 is very fast. Not my experience. Since installing it my downloads have become very much slower. Is there a way to go back to IE7 without causing software screwup? -- Longjohn |

Is there a way to go back to IE7 without causing software > screwup? If IE8 is slow to open tabs or windows: - Remove all sites from the Restricted Sites security zone. Thousands of entries (added by anti-malware programs) in this list will severely slow IE8. Known bug. Manual removal is tedious. Save http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf to a file, right- click on it, and select Install. This will make registry changes to delete the ZoneMap entries and recreate them (but empty). ALL sites in every security zone are deleted. If you have entries in the Trusted Sites zone, record them before deletion. Look in the Add/Remove Programs applet (and showing updates, too) in Control Panel to see if there was an entry for "Windows Internet Explorer 8". For Windows XP, you cannot uninstall IE8 if SP-3 was installed after the install of IE8. You will need to first uninstall SP-3 before you can uninstall IE8. Below are some articles found simply by searching Microsoft's support knowledgebase at http://support.microsoft.com/: How Do I Uninstall or Remove Internet Explorer 8? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957700 Windows Internet Explorer 8 does not appear in the "Currently Installed Updates" list in Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/965227 |

| Re: IE8 slow There are some possible fixes being posted around the web inlcuding re-reigstering actxprxy.dll by executing this command from a command window: regsvr32 actxprxy.dll. Another is to delete all the restricted web sites from the security window under Tools, Internet Options. But the one that worked for me was to go to the IE8 Manage Add-ons screen and disable Java. The only other solution being offered is to revert to an earlier version of IE. Disabling Java mAde a world of diff when nothing else would help. Load times dropped for 5-15 sec down to a mere 1 or 2. "VanguardLH" wrote: > Longjohn wrote: > > > Notice many people have this issue. The blurb by MS says that IE8 is very > > fast. | Re: IE8 slow I don't think so. MS09-019 was released on 09 June 2009 (unless 3+ weeks ago is "old" for you). MS09-019: Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969897 http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../MS09-019.mspx If MS09-019 is installed, there are other reasons for slow performance: Please state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista x64 SP2) when posting to this newsgroup. 1. Does the behavior persist if you start IE in No Add-ons mode? To start IE in No Add-ons mode: => Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without Add-ons; or => Start | (All) Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet Explorer (No add-ons). Troubleshooting and Internet Explorer’s (No Add-ons) Mode: http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/07/25/678113.aspx 2. Does the behavior persist if you Reset IE Advanced settings (RIES)? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737 <= Read before using! 3. Does the behavior persist if you boot into Safe Mode with Networking? [Careful! Only remain in Safe Mode just long enough to test!] 4a. What anti-virus application or security suite is installed, is your subscription current, and is it supported in IE8? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)? Were any of these applications running in the background when you installed IE8? 4b. Has a Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)? 5. Just asking for now!! Do NOT use such a Restore Point yet!! => Do you have an available Restore Point which predates the install of IE8? shieber wrote: > Hmm, that appears to be an old update for IE6.
