IE8, no option to open links in new tab?

Maybe I've been on FFox too long and missing something. I saw no option in
IE8 to open links in a new tab. Yes, I can right clink the link and choose to
open it in a new tab that way, but why cant I normally click a link and
automatically have it open in a new tab? The extra step of right-clicking and
and choosing to open in a new tab every time makes for a tedious browsing
experience. Plus, some pages, ie banks or other sites dont allow for right
clicking. I guess this only reminds me of why I've been on FF for so long,
the absence of common sense choices in IE.

You missed it. Click the Tools then Internet Options
There are four sections: Home page, Browsing History,
Search and Tabs. Guess which one *you* want! 8^)

Click the Settings button in the Tabs section then look for
"Open links from other programs in:"
Click the radio button marked "A new tab in the current window"

Thank you, I had already tried that but links would open in a new window
rather than a tab. Then I saw the option "When a pop-up is encountered, open
in a new tab". I selected that and now its working properly.

Now why would they confuse users by referring to opening links as "pop-ups".
Thats what threw me off. A pop-up is usually associated with ads or
javascripts of some sort, not opening new web pages!

Re: IE8, no option to open links in new tab?

Assuming Tabbed Browsing is enabled and IE8's installed properly, CTRL+Click
on the link (or right-click | Open in new tab).

Re: IE8, no option to open links in new tab?

normally , clicking on a link will open that link in the current browser
window. (does not matter what browser)
You - (as a website developeer) - can change the links behaviour so it
automatically opens in a new window (or as far as ie is concerned.... a
pop-up)

Re: IE8, no option to open links in new tab? this did not work either

Internet Explorer 8 Open in new Tab/Window does not work

Issue:

You are unable to open a new Tab/Window or nothing happens when you open a
new Tab/Window after updating to Internet Explorer 8

when right clicking and choosing open in new tab window or when clicking on
a hyperlink.

Resolution:

Re registering the actxprxy.dll file seems to fix this issue, the reasons
for why this fix works are not clear.

Follow the Instructions below to re register the actxprxy.dll :

Click on Start —> Run and type cmd and hit enter.

In the command Prompt window type Regsvr32 actxprxy.dll and hit enter

maybe cause i am vista 64 (regsvr64 was not found)(nor regsvr)

Re: IE8, no option to open links in new tab?

You can open all links in a new tab in Internet Explorer 8.
You can find the steps to do this here:

Hope this helps.
