IE7 going online causes application launch to fail

I have been reading a lot of various Group's solutions and tips in an
attempt to find what was causing my Berlitz Language System app to
stop launching after it had launched and run successfully multiple
times. After it does not launch, I have to reboot the system to get
the app to launch again.

Not finding an answer, but believing the problem was associated with a
corrupt Startup item, I used MSCONFIG in an attempt to find that
Startup item. I disabled all Startup items then enabled / rebooted
them one at a time, launching BLS after each reboot. When I was
finished, BLS had not failed to launch and all Startup items were
enabled. So, Startup isn't the problem.

I then started launching and shutting down other apps to see if any of
them was the problem. What I found was that only one app affected the
BLS launch, IE7. After launching IE, opening a webpage and then
exiting IE, the BLS app would not launch. Had to reboot system, then
it launched, until IE went online, then, BLS would not launch. No
other online app had this affect.

I also found that the lost connection problem I was having with an
HPLJ4 attached via LPT1 was affected by using IE. After each of the
reboots, I could print a test page from the printer, but after going
online with IE, the printer was dead until I rebooted the system.
Originally thought this problem was associated with the install of
SP3. Uninstalled SE3 and doing several MS Tech suggested diagnostic
efforts. Will ask them about IE as well. Will probably get the usual
brush-off.

IE7 on XP Pro SP2 (May have accidentally posted this in an IE6 Group
- sorry)

Now running FireFox 3.0.8, and it does not cause the above problems.
(It has different problems.)

I would be interested if anyone has any idea about what is happening
via IE?

What / where could I check or read?

Thanks.

Re: IE7 going online causes application launch to fail

Asked/Answered in IE6 Browser newsgroup w/a crosspost to IE General.

If you must make identical posts to multiple newsgroups, please cross-post
one (1) message to all of them. Thank you.
