IE 7

Hi everybody,

I have the following problem with IE 7 and Firefox (on a PC uses XP Pro).

It seems that I cannot access a particular web site (www.txu.com). When I
enter the web address and click enter. I get sent to Goggle or some other
search page.

The site I want is listed in the search page so when I select the site I
get the page that says "Internet Explorer cannot display that webpage. On the
same PC I also have Firefox and still cannot access that site.

When I try using Firefox I again get a search engine site that will list
www.txu.com so when I select the site I get the message "Firfox can't find
the server at www.txu,com".

Now, with the another PC with Vista and a laptop equipped with XP I can
access the site using IE7 or Firefox with no problem.

I have checked all the settings and compared them to the settings in the
computers that work and there is no difference. What should I try ?

Many thanks in advance for your kind help.

with best regards,

Jim F. Serna

Since the problem extends to both IE7 and Firefox on one particular computer
but not others (including mine), I suspect that some malware has messed with
your internet settings.

A place to look for odd redirection is the Hosts file.

And, you need to determine the malware status of the problem computer.

Re: IE 7

No problem here with IE 7 and FF 3 on Win XP.

TXU Energy -- The #1 Choice in Texas.

Is this the only URL that exhibits this behavior? If so, your Hosts file
or some other component of your security software is incorrectly
redirecting the URL to Google.

On the other hand, if this happens with many web sites, your computer
has been infected with malware.

txu.com and IE7 or IE8

If you are using TCP IV6 try removing it and rebooting. I did this and was able to access TXU again. Don't know why. When I called TXU they had me change the automatic setting on DNS gateway and gave me an address to use. This also worked but easier just to remove IV6.
