is Ctfmon.exe included with IE8?

I installed IE8 into a new WinXP SP3 install that doesn't have any MS Office
products.

I noticed that the "Language bar" was activated in the Taskbar.

I installed IE8 into another WinXP SP3 with MS Office 2003 (but without
installing the "Alternative User Input".) and, now it has Ctfmon.exe, which
it didn't have prior to installing IE8.

I don't care for Ctfmon.exe; so, I had to manually deactivate it using:
Step 3 of FAQs about Ctfmon.exe
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/282599

since I can't recall installing the "Alternative User Input", is Ctfmon.exe
included with IE8?

In a virtual machine comprised of Windows XP Pro SP-3 + IE7 and *no* MS
Office, CTFMON.exe was found under C:\Windows\system32.

Right click on the file in Windows explorer and select Properties. It will
tell you the version number and the date that it was copied to your system
folder.

Regards.

what is this "CTFMON.EXE-0E17969B.pf" and why is it included/activ

hi VanguardLH & rob^_^,

wasn't able to get back to this during the weekend.

anyhow, after searching several WinXP SP3 PCs, I found ctfmon.exe curiously
all Date Modified "4/14/2008 5:42AM". I suspect that WinXP SP3 installed
ctfmon.exe.

what I think might've triggered it is "CTFMON.EXE-0E17969B.pf", which is
found in C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch; they are Date Modified exactly during the IE8
installations of each PC.

so, what is this "CTFMON.EXE-0E17969B.pf" and why is it included/activated
with IE8?

IE8 is an IME (Input Method Editor) enabled application in which ctfmon
is involved. Maybe this file got touched during the install. In fact,
when you right-click in the address bar (after navigating to a site),
IME is a selection (for example, go to http://www.acronymfinder.com/ and
right-click in the address bar). Don't need it so I don't know how to
use it, especially since I have no IME's defined in Regional and
Language Options -> Languages -> Details. Just my US keyboard layout is
defined, so maybe you need more than one keyboard layout to get a
selection when using IME in IE8. But, again, it does nothing for me and
I don't care because I only read and write in US English, not Russian,
Japanese, Korean, or anything else.
