Enabled = You get a popup dialog window. Neither setting gets rid of a prompt. It only changes what kind of prompt you get: infobar or popup window. Since you don't want to be prompted about them, presumably you also don't want AX controls to run within IE. What happens when you set: "Run ActiveX and plug-ins" to Disabled? |

Everything under Active-X section in security section of IE options is disabled. But I still see the yellow info bar at the top of web sites, when I click on it and read the 'more information' it says to disable the info bar I need to enable "automatic prompting," when I do that it makes no difference and the yellow info bar still appears. I just want the yellow info bar not to appear. |

You sure the infobar is telling you about an ActiveX download or execute instead of a file download? When you right-click on the infobar, what are the content menu choices? |

My next guess is to disable "Download of AX controls". There is this option for both signed and unsigned objects. The default is Prompt and maybe why you see that infobar. If set to Disabled then maybe the browser will quit seeing that the web site is offering an AX control or no longer prompt you that they want you to get one. |

| Re: How to disable active-x information bar with active-x disabled? I don't recall that you ever mentioned what was the message in the infobar. Does it say, "Your security settings do not allow websites to use ActiveX control installed on your computer ..."? If so, ask the web site owner if they have a non-AX version of their web page(s) to eliminate IE detecting that they do use AX and is telling the user that the site wants the user to use AX. The infobar will show up if a web site tries to run active content on your computer. IE is just complying with the web site's wishes. So see if they have a non-AX version of their pages, don't go there, or bitch to the site owner that they should do a test if AX is enabled and, if not, then present non-AX pages. You could disable the Active Scripting option (under the Scripting section) but I suspect that also means you lose Javascripts along with AX support. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/154036 (see Note on Jscript disabled) http://browsers.about.com/od/interne...tivescript.htm For those sites where you do want them to run their Javascript code in their web pages, you'll have to add to your Trusted Sites security zone where Active Scripting is still enabled. |

| Re: How to disable active-x information bar with active-x disabled? Clicking on a youtube video on youtube will result in a yellow info bar that I am talking about. The info bar says "Your security settings do not allow websites to use ActiveX controls installed on your computer. This page may not display correctly. Click here for options..." and the only option is "more information." Usually I have youtube added to my trusted sites so youtube isn't the issue, the issue is websites with flash ads that I don't want to add to my trusted sites. But they only cause the yellow info bar occassionally and at random. I want to surf these sites without worrying about some flash ad infecting my computer, that is the point of disabling activex, and it's not possible to ask every site owner whose site I visit on the internet to give me a non-activeX version, that's quite unreasonable a solution. I just thought there would be an option somewhere so you could disable the yellow info bar while still having the activeX controls disabled. The yellow info bar's "more info" option specifically states that "enabling" "activex auto-prompting" will remove the yellow bar, but on multiple PCs this option does not remove the yellow info bar. Thanks for trying though. |
