| Re: Lost Favorites in IE 7 OK.. can you spell step by step how to go and change registry key? My problem is I replaced a new hard drive and XP gave my new hard drive name "E:" instead of "C:". every other program recognize E: as the boot disk, but apparently Explorer does not so all the favorite stored in E: drive are not visible to explorer. | Re: Lost Favorites in IE 7 ju.c, I'm having a similar problem, and like Amita need further explanation. What/where is the registry key & what does that command mean? I'm running IE7 on XP. Problem came up after i connected/disconnected an external hard drive. It imported my fav's when it was connected, and left me with nothing aftter it was disconnected. Now I cannot save any favorites. They still exist in my docs/settings folder. Thanks "ju.c" wrote: > FAVORITES MISSING and/or > CHANGE THE LOCATION FOR FAVORITES > > Go to this Registry key and check the path for the value "Favorties": > > Windows XP: > > [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders] > "Favorites"="C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Favorites" > > Windows Vista: > > In the Start Menu's Search box, or in the Run command, enter: shell:Favorites > The folder should be recreated, if not immediately then after a restart. > > > ju.c > > > "phil" <phil@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:CD437830-45EC-4BE3-A424-2BC993DDA66D@microsoft.com... > > I have the same problem. Now I cannot save any favorites. They still > exist in my docs/settings folder. If the current Favorites location actually exists, another, easier way to change it to one that you would prefer is simply to drag-move the current one where you want and then if necessary restore its contents from a saved copy. To see the folder in its current location you need an Explorer window. You can use Run... (e.g. press Win-R and enter:) shell:Favorites Then click on the Folders button (if necessary) and press Backspace. That navigates you back to the parent directory for the current location and shows the Favorites folder as an icon within that parent folder. So now the source of a copy/move operation is in the right hand folder pane. Next, without selecting any other folder, scroll and expand the folder tree to where you want the Favorites folder you found dragged to. Note: if you accidentally select another folder you will lose your view of the copy/move source. In that case just start over. Then do the drag-move. (Note: an unmodified drag will copy a file or folder between volumes or move a file or folder within a volume; use Shift- drag to force a move or use right-click drag to be prompted about the intention of your drag operation.) (Note: if you move it to the wrong place, start over.) So, for example, you could rename the Favorites folder that you have now. That would be your "saved copy". Then drag the current Favorites folder to where the old one was, thus in toto replacing your old one with whatever was in the "wrong" one (e.g. perhaps nothing, if it was empty) but more significantly changing the value in the registry. Then I think you could simply rename both again without affecting the registry value, but if not you could at least copy the saved Favorites into the new properly named folder. Usually when this problem happens the unwanted location actually has all the files, so there is only a need to do at most a rename of an empty folder and a drag back. No RegEdit required. ; ) Good luck Robert Aldwinckle --- > > Thanks > > "ju.c" wrote: > >> FAVORITES MISSING and/or >> CHANGE THE LOCATION FOR FAVORITES >> >> Go to this Registry key and check the path for the value "Favorties": >> >> Windows XP: >> >> [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders] >> "Favorites"="C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Favorites" >> >> Windows Vista: >> >> In the Start Menu's Search box, or in the Run command, enter: shell:Favorites >> The folder should be recreated, if not immediately then after a restart. >> >> >> ju.c >> >> >> "phil" <phil@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:CD437830-45EC-4BE3-A424-2BC993DDA66D@microsoft.com... >> > I have the same problem.
