| Back button There are times when I am surfing with IE7 using Google for searching when both the back and forward buttons become grayed out. When this happens it leaves me no choice but to bail out of IE7 and start over. I have tried the esc function but it doesn't help. This problem does not always happen but it does often enough to be very annoying. Any suggestions? TIA XP SP3 2 gig mem 325 gig HD Intel duo 2.2 gig |

Don't try to rely on the browser stack especially with Google sites. Use Google's option to open search results in new windows. Then you can close the window (or tab) instead of trying an uncertain Go Back. --- |

| Re: Back button I checked the option to open Google in a new window, saved the option and it still doesn't open google in a new window. I have allowed google cookies, re-booted, still no joy. Any other ideas? Thanks Bobster "Robert Aldwinckle" <robald@techemail.com> wrote in message news:uN%23GgUAwIHA.1772@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... I have allowed google cookies, > re-booted, still no joy. Any other ideas? As I indicated Google is a bit strange about how it finds its new tab or window to open. Are you using tabs? Try temporarily disabling tab support. Alternatively, try changing your tab options to see how your symptom changes. Live Search has a similar option, so unless your original issue (fixing or replacing the back button function) was just about Google's use of it try using that search site too and compare the two regarding the alternative you're testing. | Re: Back button With tabs active - five typically in my case - the back button works normally with Live Search and Yahoo search. When Google is used, the back/forward buttons become grayed out after the first article is opened. Curiously, if I right click the Google icon in my links menu and click on "open in new window" (either with tabs on or off), the back/forward buttons function normally. It appears that even though I check "open search results in a new window" in Google preferences, that it does not "take" When tabs are inactivated, Live search, Yahoo search and Google all operate properly regarding the back/forward button function. Since I use tabs regularly, de-activating them is not a desirable option. If all else fails, I could either live with the inconvenience of the Google back button problem or manually select google form the links menu and right click invoke the "open in new window" option. Looks like it is a Google/IE7 incompatibility problem. There must be a way to fix it but as you say, Google can be squirrely at times. Thanks for you help and suggestions. ================================================== ============= "Robert Aldwinckle" <robald@techemail.com> wrote in message news:eJdOiWDwIHA.5584@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl...
