Re: Vista ie7 still running in task manager

Could your computer be infected?

Please understand that the more detailed your question the more likely
you are to get a specific answer.

Re: Vista ie7 still running in task manager

A lot of people are having this problem. IE 7 sucks!

I even have a CMD file that says (I put a shortcut on my quick launch bar):

C:\system-x\sysinternals\pstools\pskill.exe iexplore.exe

Of course you need to download pstools from sysinternals.com first.

Do a thorough check for malware, following all of the steps at one of these
Web pages.
Help with malware:
All MS-MVP Sites.

Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,
whose ads for malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince
you that you owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.

Re: Vista ie7 still running in task manager

Thanks for the advice. I didn't install ad-aware after I got Vista because I
thought Windows Defender was taking care of it.
It found 600 tracking cookies and 4 of something else that I had to reboot
to get rid of, but it said nothing critical. Unfortunatly ie still staying
open in task manager. Would it do any good to post the hijackthis log to
this newsgroup?
