| App causing Internet to run slow Hi I'm having a problem in the office concerning our core application and the IE. Whenever this app is open IE slows down and struggles to open any pages. When it's not open it flys through as expected. I've tried it on IE6 & 7 and it has the same effect. This never used to happen until a few months ago (i guess). No additional patches have been implemented for the app for a considerable time and non are available. Windows updates have been added through out. Does anyone know of a way to see why it's doing this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Andy |

Whenever this app is open IE slows down and struggles to open any pages. Use Task Manager and its Processes tab with all statistics (columns) enabled. What are both apps doing? If they are both using a lot of virtual memory and you have small real memory they might be "thrashing". Try changing the priority of either app depending on which one's bias you want to use. E.g. set the second app to Below normal or set iexplore.exe to Above Normal and see if that helps IE. In fact, I have found that sometimes the opposite helps. E.g. if IE is very CPU bound it can really help smooth out performance for the rest of the system to switch it to BelowNormal. YMMV. > When it's not open it flys through as expected. Your mention of IE6 suggests that it is probably XP but you should not make people have to try to draw inferences from such vague hints. In any case I am cross-posting this to XP's Perf NG in case someone there has any better suggestions for monitoring and analysing the performance of your two apps. > > Thanks > Andy > > HTH Robert Aldwinckle --- |
