| Problem Accessing a Specific Domain My friend is having a problem accessing a .com website. She has tried multiple computers on the same connection. She has IE7. She has called the ..com's tech support and they told her it is a problem with the ISP. The ISP told her it is a problem with the domain and not their line. She called back to the domain and tech support had her try to ping through cmd and it keeps timing out at a certain point. I tried the domain at my house and it works fine. It also works fine at work. What further questions should I ask her or do you have enough info to provide some tips? Thanks in advance!!! |

| Re: Problem Accessing a Specific Domain Hi, Windows XP or Vista? (Might or might not matter.) Are all computers running the same security suite/firewall? Is a HOSTS file in use? To check the HOSTS file in Windows XP or Vista... Make sure that Windows is showing hidden files and is not hiding file extensions for known file types then check for a HOSTS file at [C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc] Open the HOSTS file with notepad. If there are entries you wish to disable, you can put the pound sign (#) in front an entry to disable it. Then File> Save. Or you can rename the HOSTS file to HOSTS.OLD to disable it. Have the modem/router been shut down for a few minutes, to reset them? With the warning that a reset will delete autocomplete data, such as passwords and you will have to reinstall browser add-ons, work through this article: 936213- How to optimize or reset Internet Explorer 7: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936213/en-us Don [MS MVP- IE] "DM" <themusgravefamily******.com> wrote in message news:%23W8GvCugIHA.1168@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > My friend is having a problem accessing a .com website. | Re: Problem Accessing a Specific Domain Hello and thanks for hanging in there for us! I sent this to her, she's pretty computer savvy, and she said she has unplugged everything for a week at a time and still the problem. However, she has XP. She also said she uses firefox too. I told her having both on the same machine may conflict on some things. She said, and is correct, that don't account for her other machines she has tried. I also told her to check to see if her firewall or IE security is blocking that domain. Told her to reset to default settings. All in all, I got more info out of her. She is having more than just this issue with IE7. If she opens tabs, she can not connect to anything. That is why she said she is using firefox as her default browser. I told her to check this "HOSTS and 936213- How to optimize or reset Internet Explorer 7:" and get back to me or visit this forum and gave her the article that explains this forum. Thanks for your help! "Don Varnau" <don_04[at]varnau[dot]org> wrote in message news:efdegWvgIHA.4536@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... > Hi, > Windows XP or Vista?
