| Re: Error 0x80072f78 when using the update site on IE7 & WINXP Hi there, I had the same problem also, Here is what I did, for some strange reason i was taking steps the microsoft tech emailed me to do, took aol out, took my AV out (AVG) out & all regsvr all the wu.dlls etc. still no dice waiting for more feedback on next step from her. I reinstalled aol 9.1 & ran update.microsoft.com & WALA! it worked on aol but on IE7 same error, I uninstalled back to IE6 no dice, funny thing tho when i went back to ie 6 i click on the icon on desktop it created a shortcut instead of launching. I did a repair install of xp & still no dice, Now i couldnt get the updates till i got aol back in. I been at this for days & its boggling, If this tech has no more fixes i will reformat this pc. Only thing I can think of is to completly take all the IE & windows updates directorys out & let windows reinstall them but i could be wrong. I did also all of the following ont he microsoft troubleshooting site also. If anyone else has a suggestion please do -Thanks "PA Bear [MS MVP]" <PABearMVP******.com> wrote in message news:ubSsSVUgIHA.1188@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > Windows version? > > You may receive an "Error 0x80072EE2," "Error 0x80072EE7," "Error > 0x80072EFD," "Error 0x80072F76," or "Error 0x80072F78" error message when > you try to use the Windows Update Web site or the Microsoft Update Web > site: > http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836941 > > Did your troubleshooting included using Guided Help in KB836941? > > What anti-virus application or security suite is installed?
