| "Automatic logon with username and password" does not work on IE 7 Accessing a https site using IE6, the user was asked for the logon and password once when entering the site. The user could then navigate around in the site including opening secure frames, and the logon username and password would be automatically applied and the new page or frames seamlessly accessed. With IE 7, every change on the page requires the logon and password to be re-entered. Even if the password box pops up with the user name and password stored and available, the constant act of having to click OK is irritating. Why is the behavior of the setting different on IE 7? Will Microsoft fix this problem? If not, is there a work-around for this problem? Thanks, TedMac |

| Re: "Automatic logon with username and password" does not work on IE 7 Hi, That's not normal IE7 behavior. I would check cookie settings at Internet Options> Privacy. Try a setting of Low or Accept all or place the site in the "Always allow" list. If unsuccessful with that, check third-party security programs for a cookie management feature and disable it. Turn on the Windows Firewall from Control Panel> Windows Firewall and disable any third-party firewall to see if the third-party program is causing the problem. Hope this helps, Don [MS MVP- IE] "TedMac" <TedMac@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:471394B5-F2C3-469A-992F-71E1B238B44B@microsoft.com... > Accessing a https site using IE6, the user was asked for the logon and > password once when entering the site. | Re: "Automatic logon with username and password" does not work on Thanks for taking the time to respond Don. However, changing cookies settings does not work. It's also not a fiewall or proxy issue. I have two machines side-by-side, one with IE 6 and one with IE 7. The IE 6 machine will navigate to a new page or new frame without intervention. The iE 7 machine will not. My conclusion is that the logic checking for secure pages in IE 7 is not the same sequence as it was for IE 6 resulting in always requiring a logon for each new page. If a new logon is always required, then "Automatic logon with current username and password" is rendered useless. The Microsoft IE porgrammers have to address this. Thanks for the help. Maybe we'll get additional comments. TedMac "Don Varnau" wrote: > Hi, > That's not normal IE7 behavior. I would check cookie settings at Internet > Options> Privacy. | Re: "Automatic logon with username and password" does not work on Hi, See if this article helps (the IE workaround section.) 937480- You experience connection problems when you use Internet Explorer to browse through pages on a secure Web site: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937480/en-us Next, with the warning that a reset will delete autocomplete data, such as passwords and you will have to reinstall browser add-ons, work through this article: 936213- How to optimize or reset Internet Explorer 7: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936213/en-us Have you tried disabling third-party security programs?
