weird IE7 off-centre issue

not sure how a visitor's version of IE is shifting everything over to the
right when viewing a joomla site - could be a css thing in that it is not
interpreting the centering techniques. My version of IE7 displays the site
correctly.

Only difference between the two browsers is the version id

Mine says 7.0.5730.11IS

His is the same but without the IS (7.0.5730.11)

Anybody know what the IS means in this context?

Re: weird IE7 off-centre issue

Hi,
The IS in the version simply means that the browser has been customized, to
some degree, by an ISP.
See: http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;164539

I would first try clearing the Temporary Internet Files from Internet
Options> General> Browsing History> Delete> (next screen) Delete files.

Next, I would look for a browser add-on or third-party program as the cause
of this.
See: http://www.enhanceie.com/ie/troubleshoot.asp
for troubleshooting information.
More at:
IEBlog Troubleshooting and Internet Explorer’s (No Add-ons) Mode:
http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/07/25/678113.aspx

The troublesome program may not show up as an add-on. Disable other
security, privacy, ad-blocking, appearance tweaking programs to see if one
of them is causing the problem. Any program that interacts with Internet
Explorer could be causing this. The connection with IE may not be obvious.

A firewall will probably not be causing this problem, but be sure to turn on
the Windows Firewall from Control Panel> Windows Firewall before disabling a
third-party firewall or security suite during testing.

Hope this helps,
Don

Re: weird IE7 off-centre issue

Thanks very much for this comprehensive reply. The chap with the problem may
not be very tech savvy but he is known to me and lives fairly nearby so i
may make a personal visit.

thanks again
