| BUSTED, MICROSOFT!!! I see that Microsoft has again tried to hide issues brought up by customers. Yesterday I posted this problem and I see that in less than 24 hours, MS has removed it from the newsgroup, attempting to hide this issue from users. Remove it all you want, MS, I'm going to repost every time you take it down until you address this issue! My post: ===begin post=== Ok, this will be a long post (since I list all of the attempted fixes) but I'm hoping maybe someone (...Microsoft...are you listening??) can help me. I have Windows XP Home SP2 and IE 7. About a month or so ago, my wife kept telling me she couldn't get into Hotmail on her account on our laptop. I can get in on my accout (both administrator accouts). It tried it on hers and it didn't work on her profile but worked fine on mine. I cleared the cache, history, cookies and all temporary internet files. No joy. Tried resetting IE's settings, still no luck. I installed SpyBot, found some stuff, but after immunizing the problems persisted. I installed FireFox and she could get in no problem. Started searching forums to see what I could find. Now keep in mind, MSN and other pages loaded fine, just Hotmail and a few other sites (some https some not). A few days of running FireFox and IE together (IE for her regular surfing and FireFox for Hotmail) and she lets me know IE loads to a 'white page' with some kind of 'runonce' page (sorry, writing this from home so I don't have the exact page address). I watch and sure enough, IE opens, tries to open this runonce page and stops with a full white IE session (toolbar, etc. fine, but nothing on the page - no error page, just blank). In the bottom left I see a Script Error triangle. Click to view the script errors and I see a 'blank' script error window. This window has the script topics, but each one is blank. Oh, did I mention there are 30+ script error windows, each asking if I want to continue running scripts? Only problem is each window has no actual error information, all blank. At this point since my profile (the first profile installed on the laptop) works fine, let's just blow out her profile and see if that helps. Now the problem gets interesting...her new profile doesn't display My Computer, My Documents, Network Places or IE. I right-click the desktop and choose the Desktop tab and I see check boxes for My Computer, My Documents and Network Places, but no check box for IE. Keep in mind now that IE is still the primary browser on my account - but there's no option to turn on this icon. I run about a million virus checks thinking I've got something - all come back clean. I do a system restore to get her profile back - and I see the IE icon (no shortcut arrow, the real deal) but when I right-click the desktop on her profile I don't see the IE checkbox. I can only assume had I checked that before deleting her account I'd have seen the same. Now I'm really confused, so I start searching groups other than Microsoft (because, yes, Microsoft, there's at least THREE DOZEN posts of this problem and not one has been answered!!). I find a ton of solutions from pop up blockers to Adobe Flash. Some have me adding registry entries of RunOnceComplete = 1 and some other one that's very similar (fixed the runonce page error, but not the scripts). Finally one promising one has me run a batch file that appears to basically reset all registry rights entries - this one actually gets Hotmail to display (albeit with some page bugs - list of options on the left is text instead of graphics). I think 'yay, I solved the problem that literally thousands of people have posted on!!' I log off of her account and go back to mine and try to look up the address of a great brewhouse to celebrate my victory over Microsoft (well, they never replied to anyone's post, so maybe it was by default since they never showed up to play, but I win none the less!!) and find out that Streets and Trips can't launch because of some installer problem - apparently that registry fix ruined almost ALL of my programs - from Streets and Trips to Office. Another system restore and we're back to her using IE to surf and FireFox to check her hotmail. Now, I've seen posts on how to fix the runonce error, seen posts on how to fix the 'no IE check box' problem, but if you take time to read the posts on the internet, each one is actually related - you'll see someone say 'Hey, thanks, the fix worked great!' If you keep reading, you'll see that user post again a week or two later with the other half of the issue. ===end post=== So, let's see how long MS decides to let this post up on the boards for people to 'vote' on it to get it fixed...I wonder if it will last the entire day, or if someone from MS will take it down to hide their bug from us? ---------------- This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes. | Re: BUSTED, MICROSOFT!!! Everyone is missing my point...if it's not on THIS group, then how can people 'vote for this suggestion'?? When they move the post to the other group, they prevent users from 'voting' to see what problems they will simply ignore and what problems they will fix. I see that the post just before mine and just after mine from yesterday are still there, but for some reason, my post was moved - gee, I wonder if it's because MS doesn't want to address this serious issue and hopes users like me who have experienced this will just 'go away' and not create a stink about it. Sorry, but I for one have had enough of MS ignoring their flaws. Robert, you really need to learn how to perform certain basic tasks before complaining -- it avoids much potential embarrassment. Reading newsgroups would be an excellent place to start learning. First rule: _never_ try to use the wrong tool for the job -- if you want to use the newsgroups then use a newsreader. Even OE will do the job in a pinch. I am not an apologist for MS -- their products and practices often seem problematic to me -- but censoring criticism in the newsgroups does not seem to be something they bother with. | Re: BUSTED, MICROSOFT!!! Contrary to what most people get to experience - not all companies allow users to just install any software they please on their pc any time they feel like it. On the PC I used to search and access this thread, we only have IE and the company doesn't permit any software other than what's on their list of programs to be installed. I find it funny that everyone says 'oh, you are using the wrong tool for the job', yet when you go to MS's site it gives you the newsgroup in IE, that every MS Defender out there will say has no problems. MS can't even keep their own newsgroups appearing correctly in their own program.
