| Continual IE7 Installation Failure on XP I have two pcs with very similar set-ups, but one loaded IE7 successfully when it first was available on the Windows Update and the other that will not load it successfully. I had left the latter on IE6 for about a year until recently when the MS Updater again tried to install IE7 but unsuccessfully. The machine that fails is a Dell Dimension 5150 with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2002 SP2 loaded. The installation appears to run successfully but when the pc restarts I get the error message 'Procedure entry point GetProcessImageFileNameW could not be located in the dynamic link library PSAPI.DLL' and then after I close that message and click on IE7 icon nothing happens (system information also fails to load). I have tried opening IE7 without add-ons but still no joy so have to remove IE7 - this does not seem to complete and freezes at the updating registry part so it may be that not everything is changed back - do not know how to check However IE6 still seems to work ok. I have searched the pc and renamed all other Psapi.dll files apart from that in System 32 and I do not have Smartbridge or the other applications mentioned in posts on the pc. I have also tried installing without any antivirus/antimalware program running but no joy. Any suggestions gratefully received. |

| Re: Continual IE7 Installation Failure on XP I tried these things and had previously but I still have the same problem that I get the same error message and IE7 will not start. I think my problem is that the IE7 does not uninstall fully when I need to get IE6 back. I had to restore the pc today as I could not get IE6 back. Is there a way of totally removing IE7 and the registry changes so that I can perform a clean install. The other possible issue it that the PSAPI:DLL file seems quite old - 2001. | Re: Continual IE7 Installation Failure on XP Many thanks Frank and PA Bear. I have decided that I need to clean out my pc from all IE7 previous installations as it is not being removed when I try to get IE6 back using Add/remove Programs or Spuninstl and the issue just remains each time I try to install it afresh. I do not have a lot of time to do this during the working week and my family need constant internet access, so it wil probably be a week before I try again. Many thanks for your help.
