| uninstalling 7, what about the "Software Updates"? OK ... I'm going to uninstall v7 ... no problem. But in my "Add or Remove Programs" list, I also see, immediately below it: Windows Internet Explorer 7 - Software Updates with 5 Security Updates listed with dates from 9/4/2007 thru 12/12/2007. Each of these 5 reference KB articles. So, should I uninstall these 5 Security Updates first, or just leave them? And if I do leave them, will they be automatically unstalled when I uninstall v7, or will they remain on my system and provide the same security services to v6, after the uninstall of v7? Thanks y'all! Henry |

| Re: uninstalling 7, what about the "Software Updates"? WinXP SP2, I presume? It's OK to ignore those warnings *if* you uninstall IE7 /exactly/ per http://www.ie-vista.com/kbase2.html and then /immediately/ go to Windows Update website (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com), select CUSTOM, scan, and then install all critical updates offered. (When IE7's offered, "hide" it.) =============== How to uninstall Internet Explorer 7: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927177 IE7 (Un)Installation and Anti-Malware Applications: http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/200...lications.aspx -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ HTFiddler wrote: > OK ... I do my restore point, close all apps, shut down antivirus, and then uninstall IE7. It will flash some idiot warning about software that won't work, and I ignore that warning. Question: Is that going to uninstall those 5 Software Updates, or leave them hangin' around my hard drive? Then I'm going to run Windows Updates with the CUSTOM scan, taking all updates offered except IE7, which I hide. Did I get it? --- My concern is that I don't want IE7 updates cluttering my hard drive if they aren't needed by IE6. Should I uninstall these 5 updates, prior to uninstalling IE7? Thx, Henry |

Yes, effectively; No, but Windows Update will offer you at least one critical update for IE6. -- ~PA Bear HTFiddler wrote: > On Jan 24, 4:35 pm, "PA Bear [MS MVP]" <PABear...******.com> wrote: >> WinXP SP2, I presume? > > Yup > >> It's OK to ignore those warnings > > What warnings? | Re: uninstalling 7, what about the "Software Updates"? Thx ... worked great. By the way, for anyone who reads this in the future, uninstalling IE7 DID in fact also uninstall the 5 Software Updates. They all disappeared from the Add/Remove list even before the mandatory reboot. Henry. |
