"Open links from other programs" option does not work

I have a program which opens Internet pages in IE7. In Vista it opens
new pages in tabs of single IE. In XP it creates new IE window for
each page. "Open links from other programs" option in both cases set
to "New Tab".

Please, advise.

Re: "Open links from other programs" option does not work

You're not running WinXP anymore.

If the open IE window is displaying a page in, e.g., Internet zone and the
page you want to open runs in a different zone, e.g., Secure Sites, a new
window is invoked by default.

If the open IE window is displaying a https:// page and you're attempting to
open a http:// page, a new window is invoked by default.

[To keep track of things, it helps immensely if you include all of previous
message(s) in your replies to the newsgroup. Thank you.]

And in what security zone is the page running?

Do you understand the difference between IE opening a page and another
application opening the page *using* IE? Do you understand Vista's enhanced
security features including UAC?

Re: "Open links from other programs" option does not work

Page is in regular Internet zone.

1. Do you understand the difference between IE opening a page and
another application opening the page *using* IE? Yes
2. Do you understand Vista's enhanced security features including UAC?
No.

I'm looking into way to make program work consistently with IE7 in XP
and Vista.

I think you need to become much more knowledgable about the enhanced
security features in Vista, including UAC (User Account Control), Protected
Mode in IE, and Privileges.

Vista-specific newsgroups include:

Looks like You didn't get the question.
Program works fine in Vista.
Program doesn't work right in XP.

There is really no point in going deep into Vista. I need help with XP/
IE7 combo.

Sorry about that, but if you'd included all of the previous conversations in
your replies, I might have caught it.

YW. Sit tight. I believe a colleague knows a fix for this and I've asked
him to reply to the thread.

Re: "Open links from other programs" option does not work

I disabled the *Tabs* in IE7 soon after getting it as I didn't care for
them. So, I don't know if this will help or not. Some people using IE6 & IE7
had the problem where clicking on a link opened IE without a problem, but
clicking on a second link reused the same window. the fix I have was to open
in multiple windows. Perhaps from this you can rearrange it as per the OP's
wishes.

To open and minimize more than one link in OE at the same time, first close
Outlook Express:

In Internet Explorer: Tools | Internet Options | Advanced. Uncheck: Reuse
windows for launching shortcuts.

Close all programs. In Windows Explorer, or the Control Panel:

Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to {NONE} Internet Shortcut and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Select 'open'.
Click Edit.
Uncheck: Use DDE

Reopen OE and it should now open more than one link at a time.
