IE 7 - Thinkpad - Vista Business Connecting- Connecting - Connecting - Connecting

I have a Thinkpad running Vista Business. when you go to a web site
it says Connecting- Connecting - Connecting - Connecting. Then
finally connects to the web site then takes forever to finish
downloading the content.

Any ideas to to fix this?
