Controlling ads with IE 7

I don't use IE 7 very much, but the few times I do I am amazed at the
number of ads I see. Firefox, my default browser, has an extremely useful
extension called AdBlock Plus that blocks most of the ads. Is there
something similar (and free) that will do this for IE 7?

Quite a bit. Just installed a free add-on called IE7Pro. It doesn't
seem to be as customizable as AdBlock Plus, but it does appear to block some
ads.

Actually, this program does far more than block ads. Just noticed
that it changed IE's inline search field so that now it is positioned at the
bottom of the screen, which I prefer. That is how Firefox's inline search
is positioned too.

Stop most ads and protect your PC at the same time. See
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

You do understand that the ads are coming from the websites, not IE, right?

I use Avant which has ad-blocking as well as flash-blocking and numerous
other features.

I am referring to ads embedded inside web pages, not pop-up ads.
