| Saved Temp/History Whenever I visit a website, view/do whatever, close the window and disconnect (yes still on dial up), and then reconnect sometime later and try to revisit the already visited web site, it doesn't automatically just find the old images and text in the history file (or wherever), no it has to go through the whole process of downloading the whole thing again. My history is set to keep for three days and my temp file size is set at 50mb. Any thoughts on why it doesn't remember recently visited pages? |

| Re: Saved Temp/History The spirit world wasn't able to divine what version of Internet Explorer you have, but fortunately all recent versions look more or less the same for the purposes of your question. In Internet Options > General tab > look for the section entitled 'Check for newer versions of stored pages'. That's where you'll find the settings you need. --- Leonard Grey Errare humanum est Pateh wrote: > Whenever I visit a website, view/do whatever, close the window and disconnect > (yes still on dial up), and then reconnect sometime later and try to revisit > the already visited web site, it doesn't automatically just find the old > images and text in the history file (or wherever), no it has to go through > the whole process of downloading the whole thing again. | Re: Saved Temp/History Sorry, I was hoping that the smoke signals I sent up would show the world that I am running IE7. I checked where you suggested and I already have that section checked to "check for newer versions, automatically", should this be set to something else? | Re: Saved Temp/History Try 'Every visit to the page' or 'Every time you start Internet Explorer'. This will give you more recent versions of web pages, but on dial-up it'll take longer to see them. --- Leonard Grey Errare humanum est Pateh wrote: > Sorry, I was hoping that the smoke signals I sent up would show the world > that I am running IE7. | Re: Saved Temp/History Thanks, I will try that. Just out of curiosity, I upgraded to IE7 about two months ago, this did not happen on IE6 (or whatever the version was I upgraded from), what was the old option? I never had this problem with past versions. peace "Leonard Grey" wrote: > Try 'Every visit to the page' or 'Every time you start Internet > Explorer'. My history is set to > keep for three days and my temp file size is set at 50mb. Any thoughts on > why it doesn't remember recently visited pages? How do you know that it isn't? If the page is cached you should be able to set Work Offline, load About:Blank over it, and then go back to it without getting a prompt about connecting. If you can do that then you could also set your cache-checking to Never and then you would not observe any cache-checking requests but be aware that cache-checking is not the same thing as "the whole process of downloading the whole thing again." ; ) Tip: you can watch the requests IE makes when rendering a page by using Fiddler2. If you need help analysing a specific example, post a link. HTH Robert Aldwinckle --- |
