Problems closing active IE window in Vista Enterprise

I just recently got a laptop with Vista Home Premium and removed it and did a
clean install of Enterprise on it. I'm having this extremely irritating issue
with open IE windows. I generally like to close them by right clicking on
their entry in the taskbar and selecting close. However, instead of closing
the stupid thing just beeps on me and does nothing. I have to minimize the
window first and then right click it's entry in the taskbar and close it. I
have all windows updates installed. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks.

I know of three causes for the vast majority of such problems:
1. You might have incompatible add-ons:
Go to Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools
and click Internet Explorer (No Add-ons).

2. Tools | Internet Options | Advanced
Scroll to the bottom and click Reset Internet Explorer Settings. See this
article first:
How to use Reset Internet Explorer Settings (RIES):

Note that the Reset IE Settings button will delete AutoComplete date (such
as passwords.) Do you have those backed up?

3. Malware already installed on the computer: Help with malware

Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,
whose ads for
malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you
owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.

You might also try the steps here:

Re: Problems closing active IE window in Vista Enterprise

Hi,

Thanks a bunch for your reply. Unfortunately the problem still persists.
It's extremely weird but I really don't care much for now as I'm getting rid
of the laptop on which I have vista (nothing to do with this issue...it's way
too small to return a laptop).

Thanks,
Rahul
