IE7 Cumulative Security Update

Since I have put this update in, I can no longer use the Tools/Internet
Options/Delete, etc. option to get rid of cookies, browsing history, etc.
Nothing happens. I can use Disk Cleaner, but don't want to have to go
through all that. Can I revert back to before I put in the IE update - in
other words - how necessary is it?

Re: IE7 Cumulative Security Update

Give this a shot:

1. Disable your anti-virus application, any real-time protection provided by
an anti-spyware application (except for Windows Defender; includes Spybot
Tea Timer, SpySweeper Guards, AVG AS guard.exe, etc.), disable any
third-party firewall AND enable the Windows Firewall.

NB: You're "working without a net" now: Don't to ANYTHING else online (e.g.,
browsing; reading email; chatting) except #4 below until your anti-virus
application has been re-enabled! If you're running ZA Free firewall, you
may need to uninstall it instead of disabling it.

2. Uninstall "Security Update for Windows Internet Explorer 7 (KB942615)"
via Add/Remove Programs (make sure Show Updates box is checked at top right)
and reboot.

3. Assuming you don't have the problems now: Re-do #1 above.

4. Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and install any Critical Updates
offered. If a Root Certificates update is listed in the Optional Updates
category, you might install it as well to take full advantage of IE7's
additional security.

5. Reboot > Make sure everything in #1 above is enabled again and, if
applicable, disable the Windows Firewall and enable your third-party
firewall.

Is the DELETE button missing or disabled?

If not, what exactly happens when you click the DELETE button?

Re: IE7 Cumulative Security Update

Followed your instructions to the letter and put back the update and get the
same results. I am going to restore back to before this one update and leave
it at that. No point installing something that makes part of my internet
unworkable. thanks for trying.

Re: IE7 Cumulative Security Update

Delete button not missing nor disabled. I can hit delete and then I select
"delete all" and a box comes up and asks me if I am sure. I hit "yes" and it
closes and nothing happens. All my cookies, browsing history, etc. still
there. In other words, the final box where you can see it cleaning up your
files does not appear.

Hmmm. This is certainly a strange (and unique) one.

First of all, are so saying that you suspect security update KB942615 is
preventing you from using the Tools/Internet Options/Delete option to get
rid of cookies or browsing history?

I haven't read in the many postings about this update, that this is a
possible consequence. Most reports were about IE6 crashing. Moreover after I
upgraded to IE7 (and before the fix was released) I had no problems with IE7
crashing. But I did with IE6.

Anyway, you say Delete All is not working.

How about if you do a delete of just one set of objects/files such as
clicking "Delete files.." or "Delete cookies..."?

Re: IE7 Cumulative Security Update

Does not work if I try to delete just one set of objects. Tried that. Have
restored computer back to before the IE7 cumulative "fix" and it now works
just fine.

Re: IE7 Cumulative Security Update

It's somewhat risky to be running IE and Windows without being fully
patched, Renee.

What anti-virus application are you running? What anti-spyware
applications, other than Windows Defender?
