| IE7 hangs on new tab/new window Hi all, first post here. yesterday I had to brutally uninstall a driver of a digital camera and its software because its uninstall programs hung in Vista. Don't know wheter it's related or not to it but here's my problem: when opening IE7 the homepage and the start-up tabs open regularly BUT, when I try to open a page in a new tab with the right click , or do the same to open page in new window, both the tab or the page hangs trying to connect but it's clear that it won't open the page , it stays like hybernated , while I can close the tab/page with no problem. Tried to follow the tips that some people suggested in previous posts (disable dell/flash add-ons) , tried a reset too but no results...anybody here can explain what's going on from a day to another? Did IE7 have a cold? Thanks for any help! max |

Some additional info: Hang happens for open in new tab as well as open in new window - also happens for any link that has a target specified that causes the link to open in a new window. clicking stop - then clicking in the address bar and hitting enter will cause the page to load - for all scenarios mentioned above. Phishing filter is broken - always says microsoft online service is down. (Not the case cause it works fine on my xp box) Ctrl-F or Edit/Find causes IE to lose focus instead of bringing up the find dialog. Right clicking on the IE shortcut from desktop and Running it as an administrator fixes all the above mentioned problems. - never had to do this before nor would it make sense that I had to. My user ID is in Administrators group. |

That's about all the repair that's left to IE7 users in Vista. By doing that presumably you effectively cleared all your userdata, deleted all your add-ons, and re-registered all the IE related .dlls (or so we were told when MS were asked about how IE7 replaced the IE6sp2 /rereg facility.) > anybody here can explain what's going on from a day to another? > Did IE7 have a cold? Do you have any other software installed which might be interfering with those operations? E.g. another browser which might be partially taking over then? What I would do is Run... ProcMon to try to see what is happening when you try to open those other tabs. That diagnostic would be most useful when you had an otherwise identical trace from another system which was working normally. To get more help I think you should post in Vista specific newsgroups too. Cross-posting for convenience. > Thanks for any help! > max Good luck Robert Aldwinckle --- |

| Re: IE7 hangs on new tab/new window Did you try turning off the Phishing Filter ? From what you said, this would make sense since the one of first things IE would do when opening a new tab is to try and establish a connection with the Phishing service to determine if the web page is on the list. It seems as if this might be hanging and when you stop and reload this aborts the phishing check and just loads the page. There is a neat tool called Fiddler that allows you to monitor what the browser is doing at every step and this can help you determine where it is hanging up and what is is doing at the time and if it is the Phishing filter it will let you see what URL it is trying to access. http://www.fiddlertool.com/fiddler/version.asp I always suspect viruses or malware but usually this is not the case but I can see some hacker trying to redirect your phishing filter to a spoofed address to in effect disable this feature. Let us know if you make any progress. <spyrrho********.com> wrote in message news:104d0dbd-77ad-4cd2-8972-58138a9aa552@l32g2000hse.googlegroups.com...
