| KB942615 - Cumulative security update for internet explorer 7 inwindows vista I think there is a problem with the update. After the install and reboot, the internet explorer fails to open any web pages (while I am connected to internet as my messengers are working) I uninstall it and reboot the machine (which it asks for after the uninstall) and things are just fine. I tried the install with anti- virus turned-off but it did not help either. Any updates on this issue? Is anyone else facing this? Any resolutions available? (Additionally, service pack 1 for office was released near the same time (2-3 days back) and it has problems as well - I cannot connect to my gmail pop3 account after the install - but I don't that is interfereing with the IE problem) |

I tried that with Norton turned off. It just does not work. Would you consider windows defender as one of anti-virus/anti-spyware programs? Anything else that I might need to turn off (windows components - because I don't have anything else installed that could be categorized as anti-virus/anti-spyware? |

Sorry, there is just so much on these forums about urlmon.dll that I am not sure which one applies to my case. I could find references for xp but not for vista. Are you pointing at: regsvr32 urlmon.dll? It would be nice if you could point me to the exact solution. I tried turning off norton antivirus but it doesn't help either. Somewhere I read, that I need to double re-boot after update install. That doesn't work either. |

| Re: KB942615 - Cumulative security update for internet explorer 7 in windows vista Error message after you install a Windows Internet Explorer 7 update from Windows Update or from Microsoft Update: "Webpage cannot be displayed": http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942818 If tweaking your third-party firewall's settings don't help, try the following: 1. Disable your anti-virus application, any real-time protection provided by an anti-spyware application (except for Windows Defender; includes Spybot Tea Timer, SpySweeper Guards, AVG AS guard.exe, etc.), disable any third-party firewall AND enable the Windows Firewall. NB: You're "working without a net" now: Don't to ANYTHING else online (e.g., browsing; reading email; chatting) except #4 below until your anti-virus application has been re-enabled! If you're running ZA Free firewall, you may need to uninstall it instead of disabling it. 2. Uninstall "Security Update for Windows Internet Explorer 7 (KB942615)" via Add/Remove Programs (make sure Show Updates box is checked at top right) and reboot. 3. Re-do #1 above. 4. Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and install any Critical Updates offered. If "Root Certificates" update is listed in the Optional Updates category, you might install it, too, to take full advantage of IE7's additional security. 5. I got it working now. The problem was - I had stopped the various norton services (set them to manual as well so that on restart they don't come up again) but it was still running (saw it from control panel->security center). I shut down all monitoring permanently and then did a reboot and then installed the KB942615 update and then rebooted and it works. I brought back all services to automatic then and started all monitoring for NAV. Done! It is rather crazy though. Lots to do for this just one update! Thanks very much! |

"Make sure" none of the antivirus monitoring is on. Check from security center in control panel (it is there in vista, not sure if it is there in XP but check it out). Shut down all monitoring permanently (note: this does not mean uninstall the anti-virus/anti-spyware apps!). And reboot and then install the update and then reboot. The problem shouldn't come because it did not come for me. |
