IE7 keeps displaying a Microsoft page telling me to download IE7

About a week or so ago everytime I load my browser I started getting a
webpage telling me that I need to download IE7 instead of my homepage. It
appears to come from Microsoft. Here's the address
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/dow.../getitnow.mspx

I checked my homepage - its still set to CNN. I deleted the cache and ran
virus and spyware scans - it's still there every time I load my browser.

I had been trying to avoiding IE7 but finally gave up and downloaded IE7
hoping if I were running it, I would stop getting that webpage. It didn't
work. I still get the exact same page, only it now also says "you are using
Internet Explorer 7".

What gives? How do I stop it?

Re: IE7 keeps displaying a Microsoft page telling me to download IE7

Hi,
In Internet Options> Advanced> Browsing, uncheck "Automatically check for
Internet Explorer updates."

Hope this helps,
Don

Re: IE7 keeps displaying a Microsoft page telling me to download I

I just looked at it and it wasn't checked. Do you have any other things I
could try?
Thanks, Wheels

Re: IE7 keeps displaying a Microsoft page telling me to download I

Hi,
See if this is being caused by a browser add-on.
See: http://www.enhanceie.com/ie/troubleshoot.asp
for troubleshooting information.
More at:
IEBlog Troubleshooting and Internet Explorer’s (No Add-ons) Mode:
http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/07/25/678113.aspx

Next, with the warnings that a reset will delete Autocomplete data (such as
passwords) and you will have to re-enable browser add-ons, try the Reset IE
Settings button in Internet Options> Advanced.
