| Menu Bar has disappeared in IE7: how do I get it back I am using XP Professional. The Menu Bar has disappeared in IE7: the 'Menu Bar' is ticked in the 'Tools' menu and clicking this makes no difference (it remains ticked and the Menu Bar is still absent). How do I get the Menu Bar back? Without it IE7 is pretty useless |

How > do I get the Menu Bar back? Without it IE7 is pretty useless Useless? I think I've used the menu bar once since I installed IE7 back when it was first pushed out as an update. If you press the Alt key, does the menu bar appear? If not, then that suggests you've installed an add-on this is preventing it from appearing. Have you tried unticking it, closing IE, opening IE, and then ticking it again? How about starting IE in "no add-ons" mode and seeing if it still won't appear? Dan |

| RE: Menu Bar has disappeared in IE7: how do I get it back I, too, have lost the menu bar - ON 13 COMPUTERS - and it does not come back via depressing the Alt key, nor right clicking anywhere in the area of the command bar. How to get it back??? I can't even figure out what version I am running. I have 13 computers in my office and all of them have lost the menu bar. I also have 5 printers here as well and we switch frequently between the printers. It is a total pain having to go thru chnaging the default printer each time. And off course, using the adobe option in default mode with IExplorer doesn't work. What happened? Jells Mass "johnaustin21" wrote: > I am using XP Professional. I can't even figure out what version I am running. If you have a command bar, you have IE7. So, what do you have in your command bar? By default the Menu bar is superfluous. E.g. you could have a Help button in the Command bar which would be equivalent to Alt-H and then get to Help, About... that way. > I have 13 computers in my office and all of them have lost the menu bar. | Re: Menu Bar has disappeared in IE7: how do I get it back Robert - thanks for the reply. I found the help button hidden in a pull downlist off to the right of the command bar into which area they had been confined by the tool bar "slider" that adjusts space in the bar- I do not know its actual name. I guess I have play with this command bar more. But, alt-r does not seem to do anything other than call up the print icon list. No where in it do I find the possibility to switch printers. Do you know can I get the printer list displayed before I print so I can switch printers at the moment as needed? Changing printers via the pull down list in the Menu Bar, File Print box thru the menu bar was a no-brainer. Help does define how to do this. Finally, I selected Adobe PDF file as the default printer in the control panel of XP Pro trying to get IE to print a doc to pdf, and it stayed on one of the default physical printers and wouldn't switch to "print" a pdf file. Any ideas here? Finally - what is GPO? No one touches these systems other than me. I am dealing with realtors, not computer people, and I have 13 PC's that taken on these characteristics and I do not like it. Could this have come in via an update from Microsoft?? -- Jells Mass "Robert Aldwinckle" wrote: > "Jells" <Jells@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:A2E6374A-368A-4E88-A598-8F6348893B07@microsoft.com... > > I, too, have lost the menu bar - ON 13 COMPUTERS - and it does not come back > > via depressing the Alt key, nor right clicking anywhere in the area of the > > command bar. > > > > How to get it back??? | Re: Menu Bar has disappeared in IE7: how do I get it back Robert - I fiddled around further; right clicking on the Print command in the Print pull down list brings the Printer list up. So that problem is solved; I can teach everyone in the office this trick. Still wondering what GPO means. I am still flummoxed as to how the menu bar just "took off" on all 13 PCs. I sure as heck do not recall doing anything that causes the menu bar to remain "ticked", and "untickable". Sorry, that was just speculation. What I was imagining doesn't seem to be available by default. Ref: "Using Group Policy to Manage Internet Explorer" http://technet2.microsoft.com/window...faq.mspx#EBCAC Hint: the article will help you drill down through the Group Policy tree to find settings which apply to Internet Explorer. It might still be available by user customization (e.g. .adm file which exploits an otherwise unhandled policy value in the registry.) <quote> There are more than 500 policy settings delivered by the Inetres.adm file, which is included by default in the operating system. </quote> Or just Run... ProcMon to see if there is anything else which wasn't documented that way... <eg> Good luck Robert --- |
