IE 7 is not detecting Internet connection in VISTA

I have Windows Vista in my laptop. When i tried to open any website, it is
showing that
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage. and in More information, i am
getting that
This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including:

Internet connectivity has been lost.
The website is temporarily unavailable.
The Domain Name Server (DNS) is not reachable.
The Domain Name Server (DNS) does not have a listing for the website's
domain.
If this is an HTTPS (secure) address, click Tools, click Internet Options,
click Advanced, and check to be sure the SSL and TLS protocols are enabled
under the security section.

When i use some other browsers, they are working fine. But, the desktop
application like Skype, couldnt connect to the internet.

Please help me to out from this issue.

Re: IE 7 is not detecting Internet connection in VISTA

Any better after you uninstall Skype?

Third-party add-ons for Internet Explorer, such as ActiveX controls and
browser toolbars, can cause problems if an add-on is damaged or if it
conflicts with Internet Explorer 7. Many add-ons need to be updated to
work correctly with IE 7. To determine if your problem is caused by an
add-on, run Internet Explorer 7 in 'No Add-Ons' mode:

Start > type Internet Explorer in the Start Search box > click Internet
Explorer (No Add-Ons)

Test Internet Explorer to see if it works correctly. If the problem
still occurs, move on to the next step. If the problem no longer occurs,
one (or more) add-ons is causing the problem. In this case, use the
Manage Add-ons tool to determine which add-on is causing the problem:

1) Open Internet Explorer 7 > Tools > point to Manage Add-ons > click
Enable or Disable Add-ons.

2) In the Show box, select 'Add-ons that have been used by Internet
Explorer' to display all add-ons that are installed on the computer. For
each item in this list, select the add-on, and then click Disable under
Settings. When you have disabled all the items in this list, click OK.

3) Exit and then restart Internet Explorer 7 > Tools > point to Manage
Add-ons > click Enable or Disable Add-ons. Now enable a single add-on,
then exit and restart Internet Explorer 7 to see if it works properly.
Repeat until you determine which add-on causes the problem to occur.

After you have used this process to determine which add-on(s) causes the
problem, disable that add-on or uninstall the software that installed
the add-on. In any case you should contact the vendor that provided the
add-on for a solution, which usually includes uninstalling the add-on
and replacing it with a version that is compatible with IE 7. (Sad to
say, some software developers have still not updated their software,
preferring to blame Internet Explorer for any problems their users
encounter.)

Re: IE 7 is not detecting Internet connection in VISTA

Error message after you install a Windows Internet Explorer 7 update from
Windows Update or from Microsoft Update: "Webpage cannot be displayed":
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942818

If tweaking your third-party firewall's settings don't help, try the
following:

1. Disable your anti-virus application, any real-time protection provided by
an anti-spyware application (except for Windows Defender; includes Spybot
Tea Timer, SpySweeper Guards, AVG AS guard.exe, etc.), disable any
third-party firewall AND enable the Windows Firewall.

NB: If you're running ZA Free firewall, you may need to uninstall it instead
of disabling it. You're "working without a net" now: Don't to ANYTHING else
online (e.g., browsing; reading email; chatting) except #4 below until your
anti-virus application has been re-enabled!

2. Uninstall "Security Update for Windows Internet Explorer 7 (KB939653)"
[or "Security Update for Windows XP (KB939653)"] via Add/Remove Programs
(make sure Show Updates box is checked at top right) and reboot.

3. Re-do #1 above.

4. Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and install any Critical Updates
offered. If "Root Certificates" update is listed in the Optional Updates
category, you might install it, too, to take full advantage of IE7's
additional security.

5. Reboot > Make sure everything in #1 above is enabled again and, if
applicable, disable the Windows Firewall and enable your third-party
firewall.

Re: IE 7 is not detecting Internet connection in VISTA

Hi Leonard and all
, I tried to follow the steps form Microsoft and did run IE7 without
add-ons. It was unable to connect with any website.
I believe that I have wrecked my version if IE7 because when I look at the
listings of add-ons, I currently see two versions of the same add-on and I
can only turn one of them off. (I turn one off, move to the next to turn if
off, the radio of the previous one becomes enabled).

Note to you all, Don't Download the CBC Radio Canada's tool bar until you
can prove that you won't get stung. I am pretty sure that was after such a
download that things went amiss.

I am writing this note from another computer. My question is if I uninstall
the current version of IE7 on my laptop. How do I then re-install IE7 if I
download it to this rather ancient computer?

Sorry for the silly question. I'm what is called an "end" user and have no
idea what goes on under the hood.

David

Hi Leonard,

All the add-ons are already in disable state. I reset everything to default
value. Still not resolved.

Thanks in advance.

Did you try Start without Add-ons? That will disable some add-ons that
don't show up in Manage Add-ons.

Reposting...
