| Adobe flashplayer, shockwave player & IE7 I have XP Pro, IE7, and is a home computer. I have installed, unintalled, repeated process over and over again with flashplayer, shockwave player and IE7 to no avail. I like IE7 now that I have been using it since it came out. But I cannot get either flash or shockwave player to fully install on my computer. I have gone through all of the posts concerning this problem and tried all of the solutions, again to no avail. I can find active X flash installed on the Add/Remove programs on the control panel, and also through systems 32 macromedia file. Shockwave does not show up at all even though both flash and shockwave are shown as being completely installed from the Adobe sight. I have gone to YouTube.com to play videos and get the message that Java has been turned off or don't have the latest version of flash, or if I go through the macromedia file and click on it, I get a rectangle box with a toolbar at the top and nothing will play. I have tried the stand alone player, the debug program, etc. I even reinstalled Java to make sure that it was turned on. The one thing that I have not done is to check my registry as I don't know how to do that and would appreciate some instructions and any suggestion other than what has already been posted. Thank you. |

| Re: Adobe flashplayer, shockwave player & IE7 Hi, First see the post by Bill Castner in this thread http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=27892 Next... Internet Options> Advanced "Allow active content to run in files on My Computer" Try this unchecked (default) and checked. Next... Turn on the Windows Firewall from Control Panel> Windows Firewall and disable any third-party firewall, security suite, other security programs. See if a third-party program is causing the problem. Are you blocking cookies from doubleclick or other ad-related sites? I've read that at a few sites, if these cookies are blocked, other content will not display. Check cookie settings at Internet Options> Privacy. Is a HOSTS file blocking cookies or other content? To check the HOSTS file in Windows XP... Make sure that Windows is showing hidden files and is not hiding file extensions for known file types then check for a HOSTS file at [C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc] Open the HOSTS file with notepad. If there are entries you wish to disable, you can put the pound sign (#) in front an entry to disable it. Then File> Save. Or you can rename the HOSTS file to HOSTS.OLD to disable it. Hope this helps, Don [MS MVP- IE] "hillstarr" <hillstarr@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:B9A6385D-B472-429F-AE6E-399C0832A1E7@microsoft.com... > I have XP Pro, IE7, and is a home computer. When you uninstalled and reinstalled the Flash Player, are you following the instructions at the link supplied by Don Varnau in this thread? > I like IE7 now that I have been using it since it came out. > But I cannot get either flash or shockwave player to fully install on my > computer. It's possible that you have a Registry Permissions problem that is preventing the Flash Player from installing properly. Read below for a possible fix for this problem. > I have gone through all of the posts concerning this problem and > tried all of the solutions, again to no avail. To be clear, the message you are receiving says that "JavaScript" may be turned off not "Java". They are two separate animals. When they suggest(in their error message) that "JavaScript" may be turned off they are referring to "Active Scripting" in the Internet Zone. You can check this by going to Tools||Internet Options||Security(tab)||Internet(zone)||Custom Level||Scripting and make sure there is a checkmark in "Enable" next to "Active scripting". So reinstalling "Java" has no bearing on this issue you are having. The Stand Alone Flash Player is used to view locally stored Flash files, you will have to get the Flash Player plug-in installed properly in order to view Flash Content on the web(example: YouTube). > > The one thing that I have not done is to check my registry as I don't know > how to do that and would appreciate some instructions and any suggestion > other than what has already been posted. As stated earlier, it's possible that you have a corrupted Registry Permissions problem in the Administrator Account on your machine that is preventing the install of the Flash Player. Certain Registry Keys must have read||write permission in order for the install to work properly. If following the instructions for uninstalling and reinstalling the Flash Player at the link posted by Don Varnau does not resolve your Flash Player install issue, then you may need to download a Utility(SubInACL) and reset script (reset.cmd) to repair your corrupted Registry. Download, Install, and execution instructions for this procedure can be found at the following Adobe Knowledge Base Article: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/view...34cb&sliceId=2 Good luck, Donald Anadell Thank you. |

| Re: Adobe flashplayer, shockwave player & IE7 Did everything that both of you wrote about including the downloading of SubInAcl tool, and also what Adobe said to download. Ran everything according to directions and made sure that the Internet Options where set up according to what you said. Less than 30 seconds with the reset_minimal.cmd from the reset.zip, received the following message: 'subinacl' is not recognized as an internal or external program or batch file. Press any key... Used the uninstall from Adobe then tried installing the flash player, received the following: Installation failed or was cancelled. Went back and did the manual reset.cmd and repeated the steps on uninstalling/reinstalling flash player. Got the same message as above again. Went to the Adobe Labs and tried installing from there. Got the message that I needed to go to Adobe and get the latest version of Active X player, however, the flash 9 plugin installed with no problems. I am at my whit's end as I have uninstalled, cleaned out folders through the Windows/System/System32/Macromedia folder and even my Norton Firewall and the Windows Firewall (when it was enabled), Add/Remove programs, regedit is fine and even checked the Adobe Forums to find any place where there might be a bit of a file left on my system. Can't find nothing. Adobe Forum did say that the flash file ending in .oxc can get locked up and you need to go into the registry keys to disable it, but I did not understand exactly how to get into these registry files where you can go to the actual file itself as I need that explained step-by-step. I don't know anything else to do except to another full system restore. Thanks for all of your help. Press any > key... When you download the SubInACL utility, you must install it to the desktop before you run the reset file. Simply downloading the Utility is not enough, you need to actually install the Utility to your desktop first. Did you do that?
