| MSIE hangs-up First off I'm running Windows XP-MCE SP-2, with MSIE 7.0.5730.11. The problem I'm having is that MSIE is hanging and or freezing. It takes about 5 minutes for it open to my home page once that is open I can open any pages in my favorites. But if I click on a link it never opens and stops responding. I must C-A-D to close it and then I get a message that IE had hung-up. I am not running any third-party firewalls, and I'm using Symantec AV. This problem just started yesterday for me, after I came home and re-booted my machine. Prior to the re-boot no problems. When I do get to my homepage, I better not click on a new tab or it will hang-up (freeze). I can run updates to programs that don't go through IE, and my local area connection shows that I am connected. Please help me, Mike. |

| Re: MSIE hangs-up Ran the following XoftSpy SE V4.33 no issues, Ad-Aware SE Pro V1.06R1 no issues, Symantec AntiVirus CE V9.0.3.1000 no issues, Windows Defender V1.1.1593.0 no issues. These all have the latest definitions installed. Ran all the programs under normal mode and safe mode the outcome was the same, no issues or problems found. I also ran MS updates, even though I have auto update enabled. Found no updates. Ran Windows Live OneCare full service scan, there was no issues there either. But it took about 40 minutes once clicking the help and support link on the discussions page. then on the OneCare link then on the full service link to finally getting the scan to start. Starting the add-on disable/enable check. Well it took a while but I finally found the guilty add-on. It was a google toolbar add-on, so now that it is disable everything works. Thanks for the help and for pointing me in the right direction. Mike. I know of three causes for the vast majority of such problems: 1. Incompatible add-ons: What if you right click the IE icon on the desktop and choose Start Without Add-ons? Or go to Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet Explorer (No Add-ons). 2. Tools | Internet Options | Advanced Scroll to the bottom and click Reset Internet Explorer Settings. See this article first: How to use Reset Internet Explorer Settings (RIES): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737 3. Malware already installed on the computer: Help with malware All MS-MVP Sites. http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/...moving_Malware http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/darnit.html http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/Malware_Defence.htm Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827315 So How Did I Get Infected Anyway? For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus, whose ads for malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you owe it to the author.
