| Error when closing IE7! When I close IE7 (by clicking on the X in the upper right corner) I get an error that says "Internet Explorer has stopped working, searching for a solution". This message stays on the screen for a few seconds, then the window closes and a new IE7 window opens. This new window can be closed normally. This error occurs almost every time I close IE7! My OS is Vista Home Premium, the OS and IE7 are current with Windows updates. I believe this problem started either when I ran a windows update OR when I accidentally landed on a crack page. McAfee warned me the page was bogus, but possibly too late. FWIW though, my default home page (about:Blank) still works OK. Can anyone help? Thanks, Bill |

| Re: Error when closing IE7! Your McAfee software should have prevented any malicious changes from occurring to your computer. "Internet Explorer stops responding, stops working, or restarts" http://support.microsoft.com/gp/pc_ie_intro Since malicious software can be very hard to detect you typically need to scan your system for malicious software with /several/ of the better online scanners (Kaspersky, Eset, Trend Micro, Panda, Sophos, Symantec etc.) If necessary, submit a HiJack This log to one of the expert web sites that analyze these logs. Issues with Internet Explorer can also be caused by the use of so-called registry cleaners, which often damage a computer, sometimes irreparably. If you were using a registry cleaner and it has an undo function, try undoing the changes that may have caused your problems to occur. --- Leonard Grey Errare humanum est Bill wrote: > When I close IE7 (by clicking on the X in the upper right corner) I > get an error that says "Internet Explorer has stopped working, > searching for a solution". | Re: Error when closing IE7! McAfee is finding no probems on my system. So I ran the Trend Micro online scan, which also found no problems. Using the information from the support link below, I restored all IE7 advamced settings and reset all Internet settings. I've done quite a bit of testing since then and not had the error at closing. Hopefully the problem is fixed (fingers crossed)! | Re: Error when closing IE7! My last post was in error - the problem was not gone. After extensive testing enabling and disabling add-ons, I've discovered that the "McAfee Phishing Filter" is the culprit. So I've left this disabled and have notified McAfee about the problem. Let's hope they're paying attention. | Re: Error when closing IE7! Many security suites include a phishing filter. Most, if not all of them were written either before IE7 (which has its own phishing filter) was released or without IE7 in mind. -- ~PA Bear, working offline Bill wrote: > My last post was in error - the problem was not gone.
