| Internet Explorer Script Error with IE 7 When I try to print from I.E. 7, I get the following error: Internet Explorer Script Error - An error has occurred in the script on this page. There is nothing following the "Line:", "Char:", "Error:" or other fields There are many other problems with I.E. also, it does not display many web pages properly such as www.weather.com. It shows "Done" with "Error". The odd thing, this only occurs when logged in from certain accounts. From other accounts everything is just fine. I am running I.E. 7.0 on Win XP w/ Service Pack 2. I have gone through many suggestions on this page and Microsoft KB articles (285212, 308260...) and none of them have solved the problm. I reloaded I.E. 7.0 (although I did not know how to uninstall it since it doesn't show up in Add/Remove programs, so I just installed it over the existing version. Obviously something is different with the accounts where this is not working and the account where there is no problem. I tried creating a new account and that account did have the problem. |

| Re: Internet Explorer Script Error with IE 7 I will try PA Bear's suggestions tonight and let you know what happened. THANKS for the info. I forgot to mention: When I get the "Internet Explorer Script Error..." message, IE is hung. I can click on OK or Cancel and nothing happens. IE is dead. I have to use Task Manager to kill it. So it is not possible to continue. | RE: Internet Explorer Script Error with IE 7 OK, here are my results: 1) Start IE7 in Non Add-Ons Mode I tried this and the behavior persisted 2) Reset IE7 Settings I tried this and the behavior persisted 3) Uninstall I uninstalled IE7, which reinstalled IE6. Now things worked fine, all webpages could be viewed OK and I could print from IE. I then re-installed IE7. On the account that had previously worked, it went to the http://runonce.msn.com\runonce2.aspx page and I successfully set this up and things worked fine as in the past. However, when logged into the account that had the problems in the past, I noticed that the runonce2.aspx page did not run properly. It did not go to that page that allowed the IE selections, but instead just gave an error message. So its like the initial IE7 setup did not occur. I did get a message asking if I wanted to set up the phishing filter or not, which I left off. But I still think the inability to run the runonce2.aspx script left IE in an incomplete setup state. So the bottom line is I am still in the same state. IE7 works fine when logged into the first account, but still has the same problems when logged into the 2nd account. Thanks for all your help, I am awaiting further advice. | Re: Internet Explorer Script Error with IE 7 The fact that the problems didn't persist in IE6 suggests that you may have yet another horked (dirty; bad; flawed) install of IE7. (My instructions didn't include reinstalling IE7 yet.) I suggest that you... 1. Uninstall IE7 (which automatically returns you to IE6) per http://www.ie-vista.com/kbase2.html 2a. Uninstall all toolbars and third-party Windows Themes (including Window Blinds). 2b. Disable all Norton Add-ons, if applicable. 3. Reinstall IE7 EXACTLY per http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install, and using http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/default.mspx as the installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update. | Re: Internet Explorer Script Error with IE 7 OK, I will try this. Does the 'flawed' install if IE7 theory still hold considering everything works fine under 1 account but is screwed up on the other accounts? I would think if IE was screwed up that the behavior would be bad on all accounts. p.s. How do I uninstall all toolbars? | Re: Internet Explorer Script Error with IE 7 OK, I uninstalled again per the instructions. I uninstalled Zonealarm, turned off auto updated, uninstalled Google toolbar, etc. Then I reinstalled IE 7. Still having the same problems. | Re: Internet Explorer Script Error with IE 7 Recap: These issues are only encountered in one particular User Profile. The issues do not occur in IE6 after IE7 is uninstalled. What anti-virus or "internet security" suite is installed? What anti-spyware applications? Were all components of these applications disabled before uninstalling IE7 and reinstalling it? WHAT I NOTICE IS THAT I AM ALWAYS STUCK ON THE RUNONE PAGE: RUNONCE.MSN.COM/RUNONCE2.ASPX. DO YOU THINK THIS IS RELATED? WHY WOULD IE BE STUCK RUNNING THE RUNONCE PAGE ON THE ACCOUNTS THAT DONT WORK. ON THE ACCOUNT THAT WORKS THE RUNONCE PAGE RUNS SUCCESSFULLY. THERE IS SOMETHING ABOUT THE BAD ACCOUNTS THAT LEAD TO SOME WEB PAGES (INCLUDING THE RUNONCE PAGE) NOT RUNNING PROPERLY. APPARENTLY THIS IS RELATED TO THE PROBLEMS OF BEING UNABLE TO PRINT. > > Does this behavior persist in a newly created User Profile? > =================================== > Related references: > > No-charge phone support for IE7 installation issues (home users only) is > available until 01 Nov-07. | RE: Internet Explorer Script Error with IE 7 Update: I tried downloading a completely new version of IE 7 from the microsoft site today. This time I tried downloading it while logged into the problem account, instead of downloading from my main account. At some point in the download process it asks you validate your version of WIndows to be geniune. t told me that I wasn't running a Geniune version of Windows XP. WHY would this be? So then I went back to my main account and tried the same thing and it validated successfully. Why would windows vaidate when I am logged in with one account but not the others? Yes, the accounts that don't validate are the problem accounts where IE 7 has issues. | RE: Internet Explorer Script Error with IE 7 Hello, I'm "glad" I found somenone with the same problems as occurred to me. I've an installation with XP SP2 and to me exactly the same errors have occurred. I'm trying to solve the things and already too have de-installed IE7 many times. I've only one account on my computer. I've installed the latest Suite of Mcaffee and I think that an update of McAffee has caused the problems. McAffee Suite shows empty screens. I can't de-install McAffee, if I try nothing happens. I contacted the McAffee helpdesk and, after a week, I'm still waiting for an answer. | RE: Internet Explorer Script Error with IE 7 Hub, So, you have the same issues with IE7? Can't view many websites correctly such as www.weather.com? Do you know if the WIndows 'genuine' validation succeeds on your box? As I said in my other post, when I tried to download or install IE7 from the 'bad' account, it failed on the Windows genuine validation. Did yours also fail at that point? The way I got IE7 installed was to download it and install it from my 'good' account were it passes the Windows genuine validation. Why Microsoft thinks I have a valid version of Windows when I'm logged on as one user, but thinks I have a fake version when logged onto the same box as another user is beyond me... | Re: Internet Explorer Script Error with IE 7 Try again, using a fresh download: A LOT has changed in the last 24 hours (e.g., no more WGA check)! See http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/200...-7-update.aspx and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940767 And I *would* install it for all users while logged-in as Administrator, Bill. > Why would windows vaidate when I am logged in with one account but not the > others?
