Re: Internet Explorer Script Error with IE 7

OK, I did a fresh download. Tried installing it on the 'bad' account. SUre
enough, the check for WGA was gone, but the install still failed.

So now I went back to the good account, of course it did install correctly
and it works fine on that account. Logged back in to the 'bad' account and
nothing has changed. Same problems printing and viewing certain websites.

I cannot just replace this account because any new accounts I create have
the same problems. I wish I could make a copy of the 'good' account but I
don't know how to do that.

RE: Internet Explorer Script Error with IE 7

Bill,

I'm not able to download IE7 from my computer. On the download screens
nothing happens. I've to use my laptop to download and transfer the IE7 pack
to my computer and then install it. Installation, then, goes without
problems. After installation and restart off my computer the browser starts
with a blank screen of http://runonce.msn.com\runonce2.aspx.

The same behavior happens on the download screens from McAfee. I'm not be
able to download anything.
There is other software on my computer, f.i. my router software, which shows
blank screens in IE7.

I gave you a link about this in an earlier reply to this thread, Bill, along
with another helpful reference:

<paste>
Related references:

No-charge phone support for IE7 installation issues (home users only) is
available until 01 Nov-07. Call 866-234-6020 (North America)

How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=811151
</paste>

You could use FAST to do it, too: http://aumha.org/win5/a/fast.htm

But if any newly created User Profile suffers from the same problem, I
wouldn't bother.

As the problems don't persist if you uninstall IE7 and return to IE6, I
suggest uninstalling it (again) and then calling the toll-free number above
for assistance. Please reference this thread in IE General newsgroup when
you do so. I wouldn't be surprised if there's some hijackware at work here,
myself.

Re: Internet Explorer Script Error with IE 7

PA Bear,

Maybe I am confused as to what the new profile is supposed to accomplish. I
did create a new account but it has the saame problems as the 'bad account'.
If that had fixed the problem, then yes, I would have used the info you
provided, copied all useful profile info from the 'bad' profile into the new
profile and then deleted the bad profile.

But since the new profile has the same problem as the 'bad' profile, I don't
understand what this will do for me. All I will end up doing is copying all
my profile info into another 'bad' profile.

I agree with you: a new User Profile/Account isn't the fix. See the rest of
my last reply.

Re: Internet Explorer Script Error with IE 7

I have been reading this thread diligently since 10/4. I have axatly the
same problem, I spent 2 hours on the phone with IE support, not solved. And
followed all the other direction of Pa Bear. Have you gotten a solution Bill?

Re: Internet Explorer Script Error with IE 7

Mike,

I have not yet solved this issue. As PA Bear said, since any new accounts
I create have the same problem, I can't just create new one and delete the
problem account.

I intend to call Microsoft and pursue this, but I think that will take at
least a couple hours and I dont know when I will have time for that.
Hopefully later this week.

Its clear there is something different betwen my one good account and my
several bad accounts, as far as IE goes and as far as validating Windowas as
'genuine' goes. I DID pursue that with Microsoft, I submitted a quesiton on
the Windows Genuine site last Friday asking why my box could be validated as
genuine when logged into one account, but would fail when logged into any
other account. I am awaiting their response.

However, since I submitted that question, I no longer think this has
anything to do with the IE7 problems. PA Bear informed me that the new IE7
install no longer did the Windows Genuine check during installation. I
tried the new IE7 install when logged into the problem account and it showed
no difference.

One fact that I dont think I posted before: This JUST started happening.
All accounts were just fine, we could view all web pages correctly and print
from IE up until a few weeks ago. Then my wife noticed she could not view
various web pages properly and could not print from IE. Obviously I have no
clue what happened to spur on the problems.

Will keep trying; thanks to all for your continued brainpower on this...

Bill

Re: Internet Explorer Script Error with IE 7

You should at least rule out a hijackware or other infection as the cause of
the problem, Bill.

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log
to an appropriate forum.

Checking for/Help with Hijackware
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm
http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm
http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=5878

http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/Malware_Defence.htm
http://defendingyourmachine2.blogspot.com/
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/...moving_Malware

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to
http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=22,
http://castlecops.com/forum67.html,
http://forums.subratam.org/index.php?showforum=7,
http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30, or other appropriate forums for expert
analysis, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

Re: Internet Explorer Script Error with IE 7

WOW!!! I have been searching high and low for anything close to all the
issues I have been having. These are the same exact symptoms I am
experiencing and I have tried everything. This also just started to happen
recently and I too have one good profile out of 3, in fact while logged into
one of the corrupt user accounts I could not even respond to this post.
Newest issue-when logging off between accounts, I can no longer type a
password in any of the users in the welcome screen. Have to reboot for it to
be functional. This is getting worse by the minute! I am hoping this will be
resolved and will be keeping a close eye on this post.

Re: Internet Explorer Script Error with IE 7

OUR PROBLEMS GOT SOLVED!!!

I called the IE7 support line that PA BEAR suggested. Although it was
tedious, 3 hours one day , and 2 hours the next, I was successful in getting
IE& up and working properly on all 3 user accounts, with no IE Script errors.

After dealing with the Firstline people, who were helpful, but as frustrated
as I was, they set it up for a higher level tech to CALL ME!!! Ben did call
at the appointed time, took control of my computer, ran a number of
utilities, (some had been run before) and in all this he was able to repair
my REGISTRY PROBLEM!!!

Something in the preceding week, or at my upgrade to NIS2008, or in a number
of monthly clean up processes I do on this computer, caused corruption of the
registry permissions.

I wish I could tell you all that they did, but it was far too much
frustration over the past 5 days for me too keep good records of all, and I
do not want to mislead by giving you just some.

Please take the time to call the IE7 support folks and allow them to run
through their procedures. Everything you were experienceing fit my
experiences to a tee, the only differences were the particular programs
affected. I believe we both had exactly the same problem.. Best of luck, and
thank you for sharing your troubleshooting, and Pa Bear's.

Re: Internet Explorer Script Error with IE 7

Please look at my reply to Bill C.

Call IE& support and walk through it with them.

I was not looking forward to doing it that way, but you have felt my
frustration. I was desperate.

They pleasantly surprised me with the willingness and ability to work
through the junk and get my problem fixed. Give them a try. It worked for
me.

Best of luck, Vince
